About The Position:
The critical functions of the Director of Red Oak will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations, hiring, training, and coaching of the program administrator and staff. This includes, but not limited to: Supporting the development of the curriculum and ensuring its implementation. Developing and maintaining policies, procedures. Preparing for and maintaining the program’s license. Maintaining positive communications and relationships with families. Supervising the program administrator in maintaining records for children and families program administrator responsible for record-keeping for children and teachers. Hiring and supervising the Group and Assistant Group Leaders. Supervising and supporting the growth of program staff. Orienting and managing volunteers in the program. Attending Management meetings. Submitting quarterly written reports to the Chief Program officer. Utilizing standard program evaluation tools to measure and plan for program enhancements. Supporting the Development Department in fund raising.
This person needs to maintain positive relationships with Josiah Quincy Elementary School (JQES) and collaborates with the Director of Child Care Services to evaluate and develop program resources. The Director ensures adherence to local and state regulatory requirements. The Director of Red Oak Afterschool & Summer Program will report directly to the Director of Childcare & Enrichment.
What You Will Do:
  • Program Design and Development: Support the design and implementation of educational and enrichment activities that are developmentally appropriate for school-age children; implement behavior management systems that support a positive learning environment; ensure curriculum supports age-appropriate enrichment and homework help.
  • Staff Supervision: Hire, train, coach, supervise and evaluate group leaders. Maintain staffing patterns that conform to EEC (Early Education and Care) regulations. Plan for staff professional development.
  • Administration: Form Red Oak policies and procedures; organize and maintain the EEC license. Ensure data collection and maintenance. Oversee EEC required staff and student records and respond to specific tasks while maintaining overall awareness of all program issues.
  • Fiscal Management: Work with the Fiscal Director to develop and monitor budgets; track expenses; oversee contracts and grants, and report to funders.
  • Partner with Departments: In partnership with Family Services maintain parent services including, orientation, facilitation of a parent advisory, and family events. Meet with parents when there are concerns about children’s behaviors or development or parents have concerns. Collaborate with Human Resources on hiring staff and volunteers.
  • Internal/External Coordination and Collaboration: Attend Management and Program Meetings and Council. Meetings as requested. Represent the program in out-of-school forums. Perform other assigned duties as well.
What We Look For:
  • BA/BS degree in Education, Early Childhood or related degree including music or arts education.
  • Familiarity with the Department of Early Education Licensing process is highly preferred. Familiarity with Greater Boston’s Chinese and Immigrant communities is also preferred.
  • Experience with behavior management systems, positive youth development, curriculum development, and leading activities with school-age children, and youth.
  • Excellent leadership, management, communication, written, and interpersonal skills. Strong supervisory and coaching skills.
  • Comfortable using technology and its applications in both management and learning.
  • Ability to cultivate and manage relationships with all stakeholders, policymakers, and community-based agencies.
  • Strong work ethic, love of learning with the ability to work independently, an initiative-taker, and a team player.
  • Positive attitude and professional demeanor in a multicultural setting.
  • Bilingual speaking proficiency in English and Chinese dialect (Mandarin or Cantonese is preferred).
Working Conditions:
  • Must be available to work a flexible schedule and may require local travel during the workday.
  • Work is performed primarily in a standard work environment, including the operation of computer equipment, and physical demands associated with a traditional work setting, e.g., walking, standing, communicating, and other physical functions, as necessary.
