Boston Children's Hospital is Hiring a Health Affairs Data Specialist Near Boston, MA

Job SummaryThe Health Affairs Data Specialist manages the overall planning, development, and processing of Health Affairs’ healthcare data analysis activities. Collaborates with enterprise leaders and clinicians to lead healthcare data analysis including the development and maintenance of healthcare data benchmarks, analysis, and reporting. Supports analytics needs related to program development initiatives. Reports to the Associate CMO for Strategy, Analytics and Program Development and VP of Health Affairs.
Additional responsibilities include:
  • Independently or together with a business analyst and/or team lead, actively contributes to and leads iterative discussions with a diverse community of users including clinicians, clinical researchers, and administrators, to identify their reporting and data needs.
  • Works directly with end-users throughout the process.
  • Delivers readily available and actionable data to inform and influence team decision-making.
  • Serves as a lead on the hospital’s Data Governance Council. Partners with hospital teams and programs to support Data Governance initiatives.
  • Leads the development of KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) and delivers data analytics and business intelligence solutions, methods, and benchmarks.
  • Provides trended data using statistical process control or other appropriate epidemiological techniques.
  • Generates reports from a variety of internal and external sources, including benchmarking databases (e.g., BCH EMR, BCH360, PHIS, PACT, and specialty-specific registries).
  • Utilizes standard statistical packages (e.g., SAS, R, Stata, SPSS) and other project-specific software. Ensures that code is accurate, efficient, well commented, and organized.
  • Maintains sufficient knowledge of biostatistical techniques to ensure effective collaboration with biostatisticians and epidemiologists regarding appropriate data analysis.
  • Collaborates on the design, functionality, development, implementation, and validation of large or relational databases.
  • Builds new databases as needed and maintains a valid and accurate (validated) data repository to ensure availability of required information.
  • Advises on the development of data collection and management systems.
  • Supports Health Affairs and Health Affairs Analytics’ teams and initiatives, as needed.
To Qualify, you must have:
  • A Bachelor's Degree and 5 years related experience.
  • Technical awareness of coding systems, data types, and data structures used to store clinical, demographic, and financial data in healthcare databases is preferred. Knowledge of basic relational database concepts. \\
  • Working knowledge of the value and use of standardized definitions, calculations, naming, and data storage conventions when working with tools to access data and conduct and maintain analyses and reports.
  • High level of knowledge of SQL syntax, and coding practices.
  • Expert with dimensional data modeling concepts used in data warehousing, business intelligence, and business analytics applications.
  • Attention to detail and ability to develop and maintain effective metadata/documentation.
  • Ability to ensure compliance with data governance and data quality processes and procedures.
  • Ability to stay current with the latest developments in AI and healthcare research and keep abreast of developments in Machine Learning.
  • Basic understanding of financial and business principles, and familiarity with legal documents such as grants or contracts.
