Boston Children's Hospital is Hiring a Clinical Research Manager II-Nelson Lab Near Brookline, MA

Job Summary

The Laboratories of Cognitive Neuroscience (LCN) at Boston Children’s Hospital are committed to improving the lives of children throughout the world. Our multidisciplinary team of researchers brings together experts from a wide range of fields – including neuroscience, psychology, and education – to expand our knowledge of neurodevelopmental disorders so that we can translate what we learn into earlier identification, improved therapies, and better outcomes for children and families. The LCN is part of the Division of Developmental Medicine and is located at 2 Brookline Place.

The Nelson lab investigates neurodevelopment and the impact of early adversity across an extensive portfolio of domestic and international research studies. The Research Manager will oversee daily operations in the Nelson lab, providing administrative support to multiple research studies and serving as the go-to person for staff. To be successful in this role, candidates must be comfortable providing leadership and direction to a large staff, working effectively in a fast-paced environment, and able to set priorities with minimal supervision. The Research Manager will be expected to take initiative and assume responsibility for the completion of projects, which may occasionally require an adjusted work schedule or evening/weekend hours in order to meet deadlines. Although an extensive background in developmental cognitive neuroscience is not necessary, an understanding of human subjects research and a genuine interest in our work is essential.

The Nelson Lab Research Manager I will be responsible for:

· Serving as a go-to person, mentor and team leader for a large staff, including both direct and indirect supervision of staff, students and associated personnel.

· Serving as a liaison between the PI and staff, and maintaining regular communication with the other PIs and managers in the LCN.

· Leading staff meetings, setting clear expectations and priorities, and assisting with problem-solving as issues arise. Performance management and coaching in professional expectations for junior staff and students.

· Oversight of staff onboarding and training, including identification of additional training needs based on regular check-ins with staff and an understanding of project needs.

· Hiring and interviewing for open positions, coordinating with the PI and LCN Program Manager to determine personnel needs across multiple studies.

· Handling IRB submissions, amendments and continuing review; assisting with study start-up support and training.

· Working toward increased consistency in research, training and data practices across the lab, helping to establish centralized resources, documentation and procedures.

· Along with the Grants Manager and the LCN Program Manager managing lab-related finances, including budgets from research grants, and handling purchasing when needed. Assisting in preparation of progress and financial reports for funders.

· Contributing to grant writing, study protocol development and resource planning across multiple research studies, in collaboration with PI and LCN Program Manager.

Qualifications:

· Bachelor’s degree in a scientific or health related field and at least 7 years of post-degree research experience or coordination, OR a Master’s degree or advanced graduate degree in a scientific field and 5 years of clinical research related to public health, global health, psychology, or neuroscience

· Familiarity with EEG, fNIRS, eye tracking or behavioral assessment, and ideally, in-depth knowledge of at least one of these methodologies.

· Experience as a direct supervisor is essential.

Boston Children’s Hospital offers competitive compensation and unmatched benefits.
