Summer Camp Counselor

We are currently seeking responsible, energetic counselors with a genuine passion for working with children to join our 2024 Day Camp Staff.

Staff who can commit to the Training Day, at least 6 weeks of Day Camp and 2 weeks of Adventure Camp are prioritized. 2024 Sessions are as follows:

  • Adventure Camp Session A (May 28 – 31)
  • Day Camp Session 1 (June 3 – 7)
  • Day Camp Session 2 (June 10 – 14)
  • Day Camp Session 3 (June 17– 21)
  • Day Camp Session 4 (June 24 – 28)
  • Day Camp Session 5 (July 1 – 3)
  • Day Camp Session 6 (July 8 – 12)
  • Day Camp Session 7 (July 15 – 19)
  • Day Camp Session 8 (July 22 – 26)
  • Adventure Camp Session B (July 29 – August 2)
  • Adventure Camp Session C (August 5 – 9)

Purpose: These positions are seasonal employees/volunteers working under the supervision of the Camp Director. The main responsibility of these positions is to lead a group of campers in having an enjoyable, safe, and enriching camp experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the health, well-being, and happiness of campers.
  • Provide opportunities for the group so that all individuals experience success while at camp.
  • Encourage respect for other campers, personal property, camp equipment and facilities.
  • Guide campers in participating successfully in all aspects of camp activities.
  • Supervise, assist instructors, and actively participate in all aspects of the campers’ day.
  • Observe camp procedures and assess appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior-management techniques.
  • Meet and communicate regularly with the Director regarding concerns, updates, challenges.
  • Provide appropriate feedback and information to parents as needed for their campers to have a successful camp experience.
  • Maintain positive relationships with campers by showing sensitivity to campers’ emotional needs and problem solving any camper issues effectively.
  • Act as a role model for campers by following all policies and demonstrating enthusiasm, sense of humor, and self-control.
  • Implement positive behavior-management techniques.
  • Help maintain space and supplies.

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience working with children; camp or other group experience preferred.
  • Ability to teach and lead various recreational activities.
  • Excellent character, integrity, and adaptability.
  • Ability to communicate and work with a variety of ages and skill levels.
  • The desire and ability to work in a cooperative, team-oriented atmosphere.
  • Enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience, and self-control.
  • All positions require successful completion of a pre-employment background check and drug screening.
  • Minimum age of 15 required to apply for paid positions
  • Minimum age for Dock Staff is 18
  • Minimum age of 14 required to apply for volunteer positions
  • Lifeguards must be Certified in CPR and First Aid.
  • Dock Staff must be Certified in CPR and Boater Safety.
  • Must be available for training on Saturday, May 18, 2024.
  • Available 7:30 am-5:30 pm, Monday-Friday from May 28 through August 9, 2024.
  • All staff/volunteers must have a government issued ID in order to complete the screening process.

General:

  • Performs other duties as requested.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

Works in a noisy, fast paced environment both indoors and outdoors.

  • Ability to occasionally lift 45 lbs.
  • Works intermittently in outside weather conditions which include daily exposure to sun, heat, water, and bugs.
  • Must be able to assist campers in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness, or injury).
  • Must possess strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers.
  • Prolonged standing, some bending, and walking required.
