Job Title: Café Associate - Part-Time

Department: Bakery/Cafe

Location: On-site

Shift:  Flexible schedule - includes weekends

Wage: Starts at base of $18.00/Hr tips

Position Overview: The Café Associate assists customers by taking orders, serving specialty coffees and baked goods, and checking in with customers while maintaining a clean dining area for guests.

Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:

  • Ensures customers are greeted timely and kindly welcomed.
  • Share product knowledge enthusiastically and accurately to elevate service and increase sales.
  • Operates cash register with a high level of accuracy.
  • Takes accurate orders in a timely manner.
  • Stocks shelves and insures proper merchandise rotation.
  • Ensure beverage, food, and merchandise is properly tagged, stickered, and displayed.
  • Must remain friendly and service-oriented, even during times of long lines and high traffic.
  • Ensure a clean, organized, safe, and respectful environment for guests and employees.
  • Cleans and restocks workstations and beverage stations and ensures all equipment is sanitized.
  • Maintains a clean and organized store, restaurant, and coffee area.
  • Engages customers in a sincere, friendly, and professional manner, asking about their drink and food preferences, making suggestions when appropriate while noting allergies.
  • Confront and resolve difficult situations in a proactive, objective, professional, and solution-oriented manner.
  • Ensures that the company’s brand is properly reflected by keeping a well-maintained, clean, well-organized, and stocked counter and food window area.
  • Communicate effectively with individuals, groups, peers, management, and the general public.
  • Complies with all company policies and procedures and operates all equipment in a safe and food-safe manner.
  • Complies with Bob’s Red Mill food safety policies and procedures including adherence to FDA regulations, Safe Quality Food (SQF) Standards, and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).
  • Responsible for reporting food safety and quality concerns to Supervisors and/or Department Manager.
  • Performs other duties and tasks as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • None.
  • This position reports to the General Manager and Restaurant Supervisor.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of safe food-handling procedures, sanitary cooking conditions, and proper hand-washing techniques.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical functions, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
  • Ability to follow instructions accurately, ask for help when needed, and adapt to realignment of priorities.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and under pressure.
  • Effective time management skills.
  • Ability to balance multiple needs and priorities.
  • Ability to work independently and in collaboration with others.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • 1 year of experience in a fast-paced specialty coffee environment, AND
  • High School diploma or equivalent; OR
  • Any combination of education and additional years of experience that provides the necessary skills, knowledge, and ability to perform assigned tasks.
  • Must hold or be able to obtain a food handler’s card.
  • Must hold or be able to obtain an OLCC license.

Physical Demands:

  • Position routinely requires walking or standing for up to 2 hours at a time.
  • Position requires the ability to bend, kneel, reach, stretch, squat, crouch, and climb stairs frequently.
  • Position requires the ability to lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.

Work Environment:

  • The primary work environment for this position is within a fast-paced and casual restaurant setting and outdoor seating area as weather permits.
  • While indoors, may encounter temperatures from 32°F within a cooler to 425°F around cooking equipment.
  • Employees will be exposed to common food allergens.
