Industrial Engineer
Huntsville, ALBluehawk Consulting is seeking an Industrial Engineer to support our client, an aerospace leader. Our client is making space travel possible, and your work will directly support putting people, research, and products safely in space.
Project Overview
As an Industrial Engineer, you will play a vital role in optimizing production processes, enhancing efficiency, and improving overall operational performance within our organization. Leveraging your expertise in engineering principles, data analysis, and project management, you will identify opportunities for process optimization, implement innovative solutions, and drive continuous improvement initiatives to maximize productivity and minimize costs.
Responsibilities
  • Process Optimization: Analyze existing production processes to identify inefficiencies, bottlenecks, and areas for improvement. Develop and implement strategies to optimize workflow, streamline operations, and increase throughput.
  • Workforce Planning: Conduct time and motion studies to determine the most efficient allocation of labor resources. Design workstations and layout configurations to minimize ergonomic risks and enhance worker productivity.
  • Quality Assurance: Collaborate with quality control teams to develop and implement quality standards, inspection procedures, and process controls. Identify root causes of quality issues and implement corrective actions to improve product quality and reliability.
  • Inventory Management: Evaluate inventory levels, material flow, and supply chain logistics to optimize inventory turnover and minimize carrying costs. Implement lean manufacturing principles and just-in-time inventory strategies to reduce waste and improve inventory efficiency.
  • Cost Analysis: Conduct cost-benefit analyses for proposed process improvements, equipment investments, and technology upgrades. Identify opportunities for cost reduction and waste elimination to improve overall profitability.
  • Production Planning: Develop production schedules, capacity plans, and resource allocation strategies to meet customer demand while minimizing lead times and maximizing resource utilization. Utilize forecasting models and demand planning tools to optimize production efficiency and responsiveness.
  • Continuous Improvement: Lead cross-functional teams in continuous improvement initiatives, such as Kaizen events, Six Sigma projects, and value stream mapping exercises. Facilitate brainstorming sessions, root cause analyses, and solution implementation to drive sustainable improvements in operational performance.
  • Technology Integration: Evaluate emerging technologies, automation solutions, and digital tools to enhance manufacturing capabilities and improve process efficiency. Partner with IT teams to implement and integrate technology solutions that support operational objectives and strategic goals.
  • Health and Safety Compliance: Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, ergonomic standards, and environmental guidelines. Identify and mitigate workplace hazards, implement safety protocols, and promote a culture of safety awareness among employees.
Required Skills & Experience
  • Proven experience in industrial engineering, process improvement, and operations management.
  • Proficiency in process simulation software, CAD/CAM tools, and statistical analysis software (e.g., AutoCAD, MATLAB, Minitab).
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret data, identify trends, and make data-driven decisions.
  • Excellent project management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks, manage timelines, and lead cross-functional teams.
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles, Six Sigma methodologies, and other continuous improvement techniques.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • Certification in Lean Six Sigma or Industrial Engineering (e.g., Certified Industrial Engineer, CIE) is a plus.
