This position is part of the Space Systems Development (SSD) business unit. SSD is Blue Origin’s advanced development arm dedicated to developing mission architectures, creating, and feeding new technologies into our existing offerings, building our next generation of leaders, and commercializing new platforms that fuel Blue Origin’s growth and further its mission. In this hands-on role, you will work entirely onsite at our Los Angeles Facility with the Space Resources Program team. We are currently searching for a qualified Processes & Personnel Development Manager (PPD). The ideal candidate should possess a strong background in engineering, product development, chemistry, and/or metrology and a proven track record of leading and managing teams within the technology development industry. Familiarity with industry standards and regulations and knowledge of upcoming technologies will be important for this role.

As part of a hardworking team of diverse specialists, technicians, and engineers, as Process and Personnel Development Manager, you will form and manage teams, recruit new talent, and support the growth and development of team members.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

As the PPD Manager, you will be responsible for forming and managing teams, recruiting new talent, and supporting the growth and development of team members. Your main focus will also be on managing processes and tools to ensure that they align with the organization's broader goals and identifying areas for improvement. You must possess experience in Agile methodologies such as Scrum, Kanban, and Lean. Your critical thinking and problem-solving skills will be invaluable, especially in quality assurance, root cause analysis, and developing innovative solutions. Finally, a passion for digital transformation and a vision for incorporating data science into engineering, manufacturing, and quality will increase the impact of this role on our mission. We are looking for someone to apply their technical expertise, leadership skills, and commitment to quality to positively impact our mission.

Minimum Qualifications

  • B.S. in a relevant field.
  • 10 years of relevant experience.
  • Extensive experience in leading engineering teams and launching products in the chemistry and/or metrology fields.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated success in product delivery from concept to production.
  • Strong foundation in engineering and product development.
  • Understanding of industry standards, regulations, and compliance.
  • Proficient in budgeting and resource allocation for engineering teams.
  • Solid grasp of product development methodologies, especially Agile methodologies such as Scrum, Kanban, and Lean.
  • Strong capability in process, tool development, and management.
  • Skill in identifying and implementing areas for improvement.
  • Strong leadership skills with the capability to uplift business processes.
  • Expertise in leading team growth and development.
  • Strong understanding of modern technologies, processes, and methods relevant to the role.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Visionary skills to anticipate future growth needs and make necessary changes for scalability and flexibility.
  • Proven ability in recruiting, talent acquisition, leading interview teams, and hiring new members.
  • Experience in creating detailed job descriptions, training, and career development of team members.
  • Ability to establish and implement organizational structures and procedures.
  • Proven ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion.
  • Experience in continuous improvement, lean methodologies, and process improvement in a hardware development environment.
  • Experience in workflow optimization, capturing lessons learned, and implementing best practices.
  • Ability to lead workflow and performance optimization initiatives.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, deadline-focused environment.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e. current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Preferred Qualifications

  • M.S. in a relevant field.
  • 15 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience as a material/chemical scientist or similar qualification.
  • Proven experience in leading and managing teams in the technology development sector.
  • Experience in aerospace technology development and maturing it through TRL 4-6.
  • Experience with planetary surface missions and vehicles.
  • Awareness of emerging technologies.
  • Passion for driving digital change and conceptual tool development.
  • Vision for integrating data science into sectors such as engineering, manufacturing, and quality.
  • Experience in developing and updating product knowledge handbooks or similar resources.
  • Knowledge of process improvement tools: Six Sigma, Kaizen, and Lean.
  • Proficient in quality assurance methodologies, including root cause analysis and FMEA.
  • Experience in forming and managing multidisciplinary teams.
