This role is part of the Lunar Transportation business unit. To further Blue Origin's mission of having millions of
people living and working in space, we are building the sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo
from Earth to the Lunar Surface.

As part of a diverse and hardworking team of engineers, you will be responsible for several aspects of welding engineering for various spaceflight systems. You will share in the team’s impact on all aspects of materials, process, and manufacturing support for cryogenic tank structures in the Lunar program. 

You will work directly with NASA and our National Team Partners as part of the Human Landing System (HLS) Sustaining Lunar Development (SLD) program. You will play a key role in developing the Lunar Transportation system that will return humans to the Moon and extend human presence permanently beyond the bounds of Earth. Responsibilities:

• Support design, analysis, and materials selection; drive process development, allowable generation, and qualification for welded aluminum tank structures
• Lead and coordinate internal and external M&P efforts, including development of process specifications, development and execution of qualification test plans, and development of inspection methods.
• Oversee external M&P efforts with suppliers, ensuring welding requirements are met
• Lead the development of internal engineering and quality processes to standardize and accelerate material evaluation, implementation, and qualification. 
• Responsible for M&P signatory release of engineering drawings for parts and assemblies to ensure welding requirements are met.
• Work with cross-functional teams within the Lunar organization and other business units. 

Qualifications:

• Minimum of a M.S. degree in Aerospace, Welding, Material Science, Mechanical, or Manufacturing Engineering or related field. 
• 8 Years of demonstrated M&P or Welding Engineering experience on a production flight or space program 
• Experience with welded aluminum tank space structures
• Extensive experience with AWS D17.1 and D17.3
• Demonstrated experience developing and executing test plans for analysis and qualification of components, materials, and processes 
• Demonstrated experience developing new aerospace processes and refining existing ones 
• In-depth knowledge of aerospace-grade materials characterization and NDI techniques
• Knowledge of industry standards for material data analysis
• Experience organizing and managing materials and process-related data in a company accessible database 
• Ability to travel to support development and testing opportunities at other Blue Origin and vendor sites. 
• Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion

Desired:

• Certified Weld Inspector, extensive NDI process knowledge
• Experience utilizing 2219, 2XXX, 6XXX, and 8XXX series aluminums
• Experience qualifying both fusion welded and friction stir welded structures
• Experience running ambient, elevated temperature, and cryogenic thermomechanical testing
