Join us in lowering the cost of access to space and enabling Blue Origin's vision of millions of people living and working in space to benefit Earth.

This role is part of Engineering and Program Management (EPM) where we provide technical standards, tools, processes, training and subject matter expertise for product engineering and manufacturing. EPM allows all Blue Origin business units to benefit from commonly used capabilities, hardware, and software and assists business units in identifying, selecting, and training engineers from both inside and outside the organization.

The Systems and Avionics Center of Excellence is a "super-powered" organization, bringing top talent to answer some of our most challenging engineering questions. Its mission is to champion engineering best practices and drive common solutions across all avionics product teams at Blue.

As a Senior Software Engineer within the Systems and Avionics Center of Excellence, you will be part of a collaborative team of engineers and experts that specialize in the verification of safety/mission-critical avionics software. You have a strong desire to learn new systems, challenge the status-quo and improve software products. Your attention to detail, passion for finding software errors, and relentless commitment to a culture of safety will contribute to successful spacecraft missions.

Responsibilities:

  • Harness your deep-proven experience to mentor and advise about the verification of safety or mission-critical embedded software
  • Review and refactor software requirements and designs for verifiability; uncover requirement gaps
  • Author requirements-based test cases, test procedures/scripts
  • Assist in building the software test environment and infrastructure, leveraging readily available Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) environments and test tools where appropriate
  • Provide program progress insight to leadership through reports and metrics
  • Participate in and/or lead daily stand-ups as needed by the product groups
  • Participate in organizational initiatives to continuously improve our engineering processes

Required Qualifications:

  • Passion for getting people into space and back again safely
  • Minimum of a B.S. degree in computer engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, or related discipline
  • 10 years of embedded software testing or development experience in a safety or mission critical industry
  • Excellent Python, C, or C coding skills
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Desired:

  • Experience with standards such as NPR 7150.2, NASA-STD-8739.8A, DO-178, MIL-STD-498, MIL-STD-882E
  • Experience with tools such as Pytest, Gcov, DOORs Next Generation (DNG), Jama, Gitlab, Jira, Docker
  • Experience developing or verifying I/O, Real-Time Operating System (RTOS), Board Support Package (BSP), or middleware software
  • Experience with Model Based Development (MBD) auto-code tools such as MATLAB Simulink
  • Experience developing and deploying software test stations

Blue believes we must protect Earth by moving heavy industries that stress our planet into space, and enable humanity to access space to expand, explore, and find new energy and material resources. Then we can see a dynamic and abundant future for our grandchildrens grandchildren. There is no plan B for Earth. To enable this future, we must build a road to space to lower the cost of getting there. Blue is working on this today by developing... operationally reusable launch vehicles that are safe, reliable and highly available.
