At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We’re working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our diverse team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight!

This role is part of the Blue Origin Engines business unit, where our focus is the design, development, manufacturing, and testing of engines and propulsion systems. Built for multiple uses, our family of engines is powering the next generation of rockets for commercial, civil, national security, and human spaceflight.

Assignments can range from supporting procurement activities to component development and testing coordination. In early project phases, with the oversight of your Integrated Project Team Lead (IPTL) and Technical Lead you may support the definition of the project schedule to achieve overall program goals and component requirements. In later phases, you will help coordinate internal and external stakeholders, oversee changes, and help track the resolution to unexpected problems in support of engine or subsystem builds for integration into test facilities launch vehicles, and test activities.

As a Project Engineer within the Engines Design Office, you will support a passionate team of contributors and experts on the Engines Avionics Integrated Product Team (IPT). In this role, you will support and track the execution of engine avionics within an engine program. As a Project Engineer, you must enjoy solving communication and organizational problems, earning trust, and improving the overall performance of all teams involved. We are seeking a self-motivated and highly organized individual who can work with some direction and coordinate teams in the execution of engineering integration activities. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention toward safe and repeatable spaceflight.

Responsibilities:

As a Project Engineer III supporting engine avionics hardware, you will exercise technical project management responsibilities for a team that builds and tests real-time embedded electro-mechanical designs that control rocket engines for human capable spacecraft. In this role, you will collaborate with programmatic and technical stakeholders to:

  • Fully define project scope, assumptions, and constraints
  • Develop task-based labor, material, and schedule estimates
  • Manage project budgets.
  • Develop comprehensive program planning artifacts such as integrated master plans, integrated master schedules, work breakdown structures, and hardware utilization lists that fully capture project scope and translate it into executable work aligned to avionics development standards (e.g. ARP4754A, DO-160, DO-178C, DO-254, DO-330)
  • Lead/moderate hardware and systems scrum meetings using Jira as a work tracking tool to status tasks assigned to engineers
  • Track/report performance to plan and address and explain any deviations via bi-weekly project management meetings
  • Identify and resolve or escalate “blockers” to team performance.
  • Generate metrics, presentations, and other artifacts as required to provide status and planning data to stakeholders
  • Clearly and concisely present information on current and upcoming projects to senior leaders
  • Perform risk identification and management.
  • Lead the baseline change process.

Qualifications:

  • Passion for Blue Origin’s mission: Millions of people living and working in space!
  • B.S. degree or higher in computer engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics, aerospace, or related field.
  • 5 years experience as either a technical contributor or project engineer/technical project manager developing and testing real-time embedded systems for safety critical applications.
  • Experience with avionics development standards such as ARP4754A, DO-254, DO-160 or similar.
  • Possess high attention to detail and strong organizational/coordination skills.
  • Extensive experience using Jama on an Agile development team.
  • Extensive experience using scheduling tools such as Microsoft Project
  • Experience with the full hardware development lifecycle from writing requirements through formal verification.
  • Ability to learn fast, multitask, and drive tasks to completion.
  • Ability to present programmatic and technical concepts to peers and leadership.
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and strengthen our culture of inclusion.

About Blue Origin

Blue Origin was founded in 2000 by Jeff Bezos with the vision to enable a future where millions of people are living and working in space to benefit Earth. Blue believes we must protect Earth by moving heavy industries that stress our planet into space, and enable humanity to access space to expand, explore, and find new energy and material resources. Then we can see a dynamic and abundant future for our grandchildrens grandchildren. There is no plan B for Earth. To enable this future, we must build a road to space to lower the cost of getting there. Blue is working on this today by developing... operationally reusable launch vehicles that are safe, reliable and highly available. Every launch vehicle is designed for human spaceflight from the beginning and able to ferry payloads to space. Join the mission to build a road to space - step by step ferociously. #GradatimFerociter More
