The Role

This role will be responsible for end-to-end product development of new electrical power and control systems for blasting and related systems. Working closely with cross functional teams, industry experts and key customers, this individual will transform the blasting industry through developing new products and systems that automate processes, optimize performance and create valuable data insights.

Points of responsibility include:

  • Undertake research to develop new knowledge and improve our understanding of critical blasting and painting industry processes.
  • Collaborate with engineers, other staff and customers to identify and prioritize new product development opportunities.
  • Design and develop new products and control systems, from concept to production for blasting and related equipment for both mobile and fixed applications.
  • Create PLC and HMI programs on Schneider or similar Electric platforms.
  • Develop visualization systems including remote access/connectivity and post processing of data on cloud-based platforms.
  • Manage product development through a standard product development governance process, providing relevant documentation and reporting throughout.
  • Document research and development outcomes including creation of experiment and testing plans, analysis of results, reports, drawings and papers.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure that products will be commercially viable meet, customer requirements, are manufacturable and meet cost targets.
  • Conduct design reviews, testing, and validation activities to ensure that products meet technical specifications, quality standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Develop and maintain product documentation, including product specifications, electrical and control schematics and panel layouts, bills of materials, assembly and operation instructions.
  • Participate in continuous improvement activities, including cost reduction, quality improvement, and process optimization.
  • Provide technical support to manufacturing and quality assurance teams and service technicians to resolve installation and in field product issues and improve product performance.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of standards and work processes within the BlastOne R&D and Engineering departments.
  • Other tasks and duties based upon business needs.

Required Skills/Qualifications

  • Minimum 8 years of experience designing electrical and control systems for industrial equipment and systems, including:
    • Development of System Architecture – hardware, software, networks
    • Specification of hardware and Instrumentation
    • Creation of Schematic design drawings, installation packages and supporting operator documentation.
    • Panel design and Layout, BOM
    • PLC/HMI specification and Programming
    • Network design and configuration – Control and Ethernet, LAN/WAN, Remote Access
    • Data Historian Systems, SCADA
    • Strong IT skills in networking, wireless communication, cloud-hosted applications, Edge devices, databases, web-development and IIoT.
    • Software implementation best practices, standards, FAT, SAT
  • Minimum 8 years of PLC and HMI programming experience. Schneider preferred. Experience programming IFM equipment is also an advantage.
  • Knowledge and familiarity of latest control system standards and technology.
  • Ability to lead and execute the end-to-end development of new PLC based control systems through a standard product development governance process, including developing stage documentation and reporting.
  • Understand the requirements of OSHA and NFPA for machine safety and hazardous areas.
  • BSEE from an ABET accredited university.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with ability to work in a cross-functional team environment, including in-field with customers and other industry experts.
  • Must be collaborative and innovative, be able to manage the inherent uncertainties of product development in controlled manner.
  • Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced product development environment and with the ability to multitask and manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Must be able to demonstrate excellent organizational & critical thinking skills.
  • Must be able to demonstrate ability to effectively communicate at all levels.
  • Must be able to demonstrate strong attention to detail and the ability to produce high quality drawings and documentation.
  • Must be completely proficient with basic computer systems: Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Google Sheets, etc.
  • Must be proficient with AutoCAD for creation of schematics and panel layouts.
  • US Citizen
  • The ability to travel to industrial sites and safely assist in the installation and commissioning of electrical and mechanical systems. (15%)
