Bishop Museum is Hiring a Grounds keeping and Maintenance Facilitator Near Honolulu, HI

Employment Type: Full-Time, Hourly, Non-Exempt

Rate of Pay: $16.00/hour
Job Purpose

Under the supervision of the Facilities Supervisor, a Grounds Keeping and Maintenance Facilitator performs maintenance and repair work in the upkeep of buildings, structures, and the equipment housed therein; and performs other related duties as required to maintain the grounds and areas of Bishop Museum.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Mow and edge lawns; trim, transplant and prune plants, grass, shrubbery and trees; water and weed as necessary for a positive and aesthetically pleasing experience for guests.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of roads and parking areas. Gather and remove campus trash and litter from assigned areas.
  • Assist with setup and breakdown for events, including and not limited to, tents, chairs, tables, props and supplies.
  • Assist with the transportation and movement of furniture, collection items, equipment, etc. as necessary.
  • Performs general building and fixture repairs such as repairing/replacing screens, installing non-skid strips; performs general carpentry repairs such as fixing doors, windows and latches, installing/changing locks; performs simple plumbing repairs such as replacing appliances, replacing fixtures, replacing washers and floats, unclogging drains, performs general painting work such as painting/repaints doors, ceilings etc.
  • Maintains and repairs equipment and tools which includes cleaning, lubricating and replacing defective parts.
  • Responsible for maintaining and/or installing equipment such as air conditioning units.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Knowledge and two years' experience in general maintenance and groundskeeping preferred
  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred

Working Conditions

  • Work is conducted in a Museum/Office environment and may require work to be conducted in non-standard workplaces.
  • Work is typically conducted Monday through Friday at normal business hours, but evening and weekend hours are often required to meet goals and objectives.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequently sits, perform desk-based computer tasks and grasp light or fine manipulation, talk or hear.
  • Occasionally stand and/or walk, write by hand, and lift and/or carry, push and/or pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.
  • Rarely twist, bend, stoop, squat, kneel, crawl, climb, reach or work above shoulder, or grasp forcefully.
