BioPhase is Hiring a Sr. Scientist, Translational Genetics Near San Diego, CA

The ideal candidate will apply their background and experience in genetics, molecular biology and disease pathophysiology towards both identifying novel therapeutic targets and formulating mechanistic hypotheses that can be evaluated experimentally.

Responsibilities:

The Scientist will leverage extensive human genetics data to identify and evaluate new therapeutic targets, translating these discoveries into actionable therapeutic programs.

The role will involve:

  • Designing, conducting, and interpreting human genetic analyses to uncover new therapeutic targets.
  • Utilizing both established and innovative analytical methods to identify genetic links to human health and disease.
  • Converting findings from genetic analyses into therapeutic hypotheses with sound mechanistic reasoning, supported by additional evidence and experimental validation.
  • Collaborating with interdisciplinary teams of geneticists, bioinformaticians, biologists, chemists, and drug developers to design and conduct studies (in silico, in vitro, and in vivo) that validate therapeutic hypotheses.
  • Presenting genetic discoveries through expert-level internal and external presentations and preparing manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals.
  • Contributing innovative ideas and strategic thinking to enhance the company's drug discovery platforms.
  • Staying updated with the latest developments in the genetics community and integrating relevant findings and methods into internal projects.

Qualifications:

  • A PhD in Human Genetics, Biomedical Informatics, or a related field, or a Master's degree with at least one year of experience in human genetics research focused on translational applications.
  • Proven experience in designing, leading, interpreting, and communicating human genetics studies, with an ability to identify therapeutically relevant hypotheses.
  • Strong understanding of statistical genetics and genetic epidemiology.
  • Preference for candidates with a background in molecular biology; a solid grasp of experimental study design to assess the functional impact of genetic variants and genetic associations is required. This role is not suitable for those with a primary focus on wet-lab work.
