Bio-Rad Laboratories, Inc. is Hiring an Associate Director, Scientific Affairs Near Irvine, CA

In this role as Associate Director of Scientific Affairs, you will supporting our Quality Systems business, you will apply your deep knowledge and experience in clinical laboratory practices to engage with laboratorians and organizations on quality initiatives with a focus on improved patient healthcare through laboratory testing. You will be part of the decision making to identify the organizations and initiatives that best advance these goals while developing and nurturing relationships with thought leaders and professional societies. Your strong technical knowledge will be valuable as you engage in reviewing draft standards and guidance documents and participating in standards development committees. Your background and understanding of quality practices will enable you to create educational opportunities and scientific content for labs across the globe that both inform and motivate audiences to adopt better practices.

How You'll Make An Impact:

  • Lead Scientific & Professional Affairs for the Bio-Rad's Quality Systems business segment which serves medical laboratories around the globe with products for quality control, proficiency testing, and related data management solutions.
  • Drive scientific leadership in laboratory test quality through research, congress symposia, publications, and educational activities.
  • Cultivate and establish strong collaborative relationships with key opinion leaders that advance the promotion and education of laboratory practices that improve test quality while ensuring a balanced perspective and current practices.
  • Participate in business related clinical lab standards and guideline development that underscores Bio-Rad's thought leadership and commitment to lab quality.
  • Actively participate in appropriate agency / organization working groups, such as ISO, CLSI, IFCC, WHO, CDC, CLIAC and CAP, and attend relevant meetings held by such groups and advocate Bio-Rad positions, in writing and verbally, at working groups and general sessions of the aforementioned organizations.
  • May work with different government and other organizations to educate and/or influence healthcare and testing and QC/proficiency testing approaches.
  • Monitor clinical lab regulatory and accreditation changes, industry trends, and technology developments in order to advise and plan business response, may also develop relationships to influence and/or partner with organizations that set these standards, audits labs, etc.
  • Educate internal Bio-Rad staff regarding key aspects of new and revised laboratory and clinical practice standards to the degree they impact clinical lab usage of Bio-Rad quality assurance products.
  • Engage with professional societies to understand and advance mutual beneficial initiatives.
  • Provide scientific, technical and clinical expertise to the business unit and other functions within the company to support activities of existing product offerings and identification of new products and their respective development.
  • Develop and lead scientific advisory boards as needed from different geographic regions of importance to the organization.
  • Liaison to Global marketing and Regional commercial teams- assist in development and implementation of scientific marketing and sales tools, education programs, and expert panels.
  • Deliver technical and product presentations on behalf of the company and industry partners at seminars, conferences, workshops and training events.
  • Ensure the business unit is informed of all activities and developments regarding testing guidelines in relevant areas including QC, and EQA.

What You Bring:

  • BS Degree in science or similar field; PhD is desirable.
  • At least 5 years working in a Clinical Laboratory across multiple methodologies; market development experience or experience on professional laboratory organizations a plus.
  • Strong understanding of QC principles and practical challenges labs face.
  • Proven track record establishing and maintaining scientific collaborative relationships with key opinion and thought leaders.
  • Strong ability to analyze and communicate scientific and clinical information.
  • Excellent oral, written and presentation skills across internal and external environments.
  • Proven interpersonal skills, especially with colleagues and external customers.
  • Self-starter with strong interpersonal skills, comfortable presenting at conferences and to executives.
  • Independent and creative problem solver.

Compensation: The estimated base salary range for this position is $165,700 to $227,800 at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be provided in writing at the time of offer, if applicable, and is based on several factors we believe fairly and accurately impact compensation, including geographic location, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, and other job permitted factors. This position is eligible for a variable annual bonus, which is dependent upon achievement of your individual objectives and Company performance.
