Budget Title: Academic Advisor (SL-3)

Salary: $53,500 - $58,000

Responsibilities include:

  • Develop and proactively engage in a holistic and inclusive counseling relationship with EOP students and provide academic, career, financial and personal guidance, both individually and in group settings.
  • Maintain accurate, comprehensive counseling records and assist the Director by providing information to complete state and local mandated reports.
  • Participate in summer orientation program for freshman and transfer students by providing advisement and counseling to EOP students.
  • Participate in EOP counseling meetings and campus advising meetings that pertain to issues pertinent to the success of EOP students, ensuring best practices that reflect changing policies for Binghamton, SUNY and nationally.
  • Participate on various University committees that provide the opportunity to collaborate with faculty and staff.
  • Perform all aforementioned duties and responsibilities while conducting one's self in a manner that is beneficial to the mission of EOP.
Job Requirements:

  • A Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
  • Experience supporting, engaging and advocating for diverse population of students in a college or university setting
  • Must have demonstrated strengths in interpersonal relations and the ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with a diverse group of individuals, including faculty, staff, students and visitors
  • Energetic individual with excellent customer service skills
  • Must be willing to learn, must be able to demonstrate initiative, and should have a record of exceeding expectations
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgement, handle confidential matters with tact and a high degree of discretion

Preferred:

  • A Master's degree preferably in the areas of Higher Education, Student Personnel, Counseling, Academic Advising, Social Work or other related careers
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Experience with use of technology and experience with BU Brain, Degree Works, Ellucian Advise, Banner, Time Tap and social media platforms
  • One to two years of progressively increasing related experience with diverse populations in a higher education environment
