Billings Middle School is Hiring a Middle School Science Teacher (Leave Replacement) Near Seattle, WA

Billings Middle School is seeking a long-term substitute teacher for Middle School Science to cover a faculty leave of absence. This is a full-time position, beginning September 30, 2024 through February 2025.

Billings is an independent school in the Pinehurst area of North Seattle. We are a dynamic academic community intentionally designed to stretch, support, and inspire early adolescent learners through experiential education to foster social, emotional, and academic growth. Teachers challenge students to be critical thinkers and powerful self-advocates. Core Responsibilities

  • Teach Middle School Science (biology, earth science, physical science)
  • Serve as a Grade Level Advisor
  • Serve on one faculty committee
  • Attend all faculty meetings and school events

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Science or related field
  • Experience working with middle school-aged students
  • Demonstrated ability to differentiate teaching for a broad range of students
  • Understanding and fluency with formative assessment
  • Ability to implement and articulate cross-curricular goals for content and skill-building
  • Technology literacy & experience integrating technology into teaching
  • Ability and desire to collaborate with a diverse set of colleagues.
  • Demonstrable interest in issues of community diversity, sustainability, and social justice.
  • Knowledge of and interest in the school’s mission
  • Interest in experiential and outdoor learning
  • Ability to travel on 2-3 overnight school trips
  • Organized and detail-oriented
  • Washington State Teacher Certification with science endorsement highly encouraged
  • Candidates must satisfactorily complete fingerprinting & background checks
  • First Aid and CPR certification obtained by September 30, 2024

Faculty Position

Department: Science

Start Date: September 30, 2024

Salary Range: Base salary is $51,000-$98,000 annual, dependent on experience and education (prorated salary will be $21,250-$40,833 for the 5 month duration). Additional stipends for having a current Washington State Certification, National Board Certification, faculty leadership positions, and for going on overnight trips. Additional sub pay may be available to shadow the current 7th grade teacher in September.
