BILLERICA PUBLIC SCHOOLS is Hiring an Anticipated ESL Teacher Near Billerica, MA

This is an anticipated opening for the 2024-2025 school year. Qualifications:Demonstrated experience in effective instructional strategies in English Language Development (ELD), the WIDA standards, and Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) methodology Thorough knowledge of federal and state laws pertaining to ELs Demonstrated high expectations for Multilingual Learners and students with special learning needs Strength in collaborating with families new to the country Ability to create a learning environment that fosters mutual respect and cultural sensitivity Strength in fostering positive relationships with students in which students’ diverse backgrounds, identities, strengths, and challenges are respected and utilizedResponsibilities include, but are not limited to:Instruct Multilingual Learners using ESL curriculum units, the WIDA Standards for ELs, and appropriate English language development pedagogyDesign and implement curricula and activities to meet MA frameworks and the WIDA standards frameworkPlan and teach lessons using the SIOP Model of instruction and implement appropriate strategies for Multilingual Learners with/without special learning needs Provide differentiated support including accommodations and modifications to ensure all students, including SLIFE and ELSWD, can meet and exceed standardsTeach, reinforce, remediate, and ensure mastery of academic content with individual students, small groups of students, and whole classes of studentsEvaluate ML students’ progress regularly and prepare measurable goals and objectives.Collaborate with core academic teachers and other specialists to deliver instruction to meet the individual needs of studentsAdvise classroom and core subject area teachers on modifying/accommodating curriculum to align with EL students’ WIDA levelsConsult with and assist the principal and education staff in modifying their classroom environments to meet the needs of Multilingual LearnersDesign and implement assessments that measure progress toward academic standards Use assessment data to refine curriculum and modify instructional practicesEvaluate incoming and current students who may need ESL services by reviewing student files, administering the WIDA screenerAdminister the ACCESS 2.0 for ELLs test each January and utilize results to advise instruction and placement of studentsCommunicate effectively with students, families, and colleagues in a way that demonstrates cultural sensitivityComply with school, district, and statewide policies and regulationsComplete other duties as assignedEducation:Bachelor's degree required/Master preferred from an accredited college or university with a concentration in ESLLanguages:Proficiency in English. Fluency in Spanish or Portuguese is a strong plus.Certification:Valid Massachusetts Teaching License in English as a Second Language grades ESL pre-K– 6 and 5-12.
