We are looking to add a technical documentation writer to support the needs of the Bigbelly engineering department. This is a part-time contract opportunity with growth potential. The hybrid position offers flexibility and the option to primarily work remotely. Travel to our company headquarters in Needham, MA and our manufacturing facility in Methuen, MA will be required occasionally to engage with the engineering team and to document products throughout their development lifecycle.

In this role you will be documenting manufacturing processes and technical information that supports our internal teams and customers worldwide. Responsibilities include writing manufacturing work instructions, user manuals, and instructional guides. You will also be tasked with implementing edits to existing documentation based on feedback and inbound requests.

We are looking for a self-starter who has technical aptitude and writing proficiency. Organizational skills and an excellent attention to detail are a must. You need to be adept using Microsoft Office programs to draft and edit documents. Experience manipulating 3D CAD models using SolidWorks and editing photos to create illustrations is required.

Responsibilities

• Create, proofread, and edit technical documents, including manufacturing work instructions, user manuals, and instructional guides using Microsoft Word.
• Manipulate 3D CAD models using SolidWorks to create illustrations for technical documents.
• Edit photos and graphics using Microsoft Word to create illustrations for technical documents.
• Record notes and photographs of product assembly procedures in a manufacturing environment.
• Interface with engineering staff during documentation drafting and editing.
• Update existing documents while adhering to established formatting guidelines.
• Maintain an organized documentation repository.
• Field inquiries and requests from internal team members related to technical documentation.

Qualifications

• Experience writing technical documentation
• Proficiency using Microsoft Office software (Word and PowerPoint) to create and edit documents
• Experience using SolidWorks to manipulate existing 3D CAD models to generate screenshots for illustrations
• Ability to edit photos and graphics using Microsoft Word (photo editing using Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop is a plus)
• Reading and writing proficiency
• Excellent attention to detail
• Organizational skills and mindset
• Ability to be on-site at facilities in Needham, MA and Methuen, MA (part-time, as needed)
• Familiarity with common shop tools (e.g. screwdrivers, sockets, etc.)
• Work experience in technical field
• Demonstrable technical aptitude
• Understanding of mechanical systems and ability to understand technical terminology (strongly preferred)
• Associate’s Degree or Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (strongly preferred)
