Position Summary

The School Mentoring Coordinator is a full-time position responsible for supporting volunteer mentors and mentees in school-based mentoring relationships and implementing facilitated mentoring programs in schools.

This position provides ongoing guidance and support to Littles and Volunteer Bigs in mentoring relationships on a regular basis. The School Mentoring Coordinator monitors mentoring interactions and offers insights and advice to ensure child safety, facilitate healthy relationship development and promote positive youth outcomes. This position also facilitates in person sessions for programs and creates strategic partnerships to recruit additional partners and volunteers for this program. This position reports directly to the Big Futures Manager.

Essential Job Duties

General

- Ensures high-level expertise in applying child safety and risk management knowledge, policies and procedures throughout all aspects of job functions.

- Participates in team and program events throughout the year including team meetings, program activities, and staff meetings.

- Assists with match activities, recruitment events, fundraising and other agency group events as needed.

- Maintains up-to-date, accurate and detailed documentation and database records according to Big Brothers Big Sisters standards.

- Supports a culture of philanthropy by identifying and fostering potential donor relationships, potential corporate/business/community partnerships and engaging in events which benefit the agency.

- Shares with the Development Team potential partnership relationships as discovered through volunteers’ and parents’ employers and affiliations.

- Assists with grant reporting as pertaining to program area.

- High degree of collaboration with other program staff to ensure smooth transition among functions.

- Stays current on program initiatives, training opportunities, and volunteer training updates from Big Brothers Big Sisters of America.

- Carries out additional duties as assigned by supervisor.

Mentoring Programming

- Responsible for the design, implementation, and support of school-based programming which may include Workplace Mentoring, E-Mentoring, and High School Bigs programming.

- Works directly with and builds strong partnerships with selected schools, corporate and business partners, and enhancement partners to promote safe and positive one-to-one mentoring relationships.

- Assists with enrollment processes as needed.

- Recruits program participants by implementing and participating in outreach strategies to recruit youth and volunteers.

- Plans and facilitate weekly mentoring classes for mentees at participating schools, including discussion of weekly curriculum, and facilitating group activities for mentor-mentee meetings.

- Assists with organizing and facilitating mentor-mentee events that will enhance positive relationship development, socio-emotional skills, and academic skills (i.e., career workshops, college tours, end-of year events), overseeing all logistics, content, and budgets.

- Leads orientation and training sessions for teachers, volunteers, students, and businesses.

- Works closely with school and site staff to ensure mentoring pairs are provided the space, resources, and support needed while on site.

- Gathers data from the school and match participants to measure outcomes and program needs.

- Continually assesses the match relationships focusing on child safety, match relationship development, positive youth development, and volunteer satisfaction. Match support is provided on a frequency according to BBBS standards at a minimum.

- Assesses and refers families for additional services as needed.

- Effectively utilizes survey tools to assess match impact on youth development and in meeting BBBS standards.

- Maintains up-to-date and accurate paperwork, documentation, and database records for all participants according to Big Brothers Big Sisters standards.

Key Qualifications:

- Ability to use Microsoft Office/Office 365

- Ability to adapt to new technology tools (Salesforce and Dialpad are two major tools in this role)

- Ability to develop trust and rapport among youth clients and volunteers

- Ability to multi-task between tasks and projects

- Ability to manage a classroom

- Commitment to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion

- Excellent oral and written communication skills

- Coachable, including taking and receiving actionable feedback

- Can work well in teams

- Assumes the best in people

- A Bachelor’s degree in Human Services, Education, Social Work or a related field

- Ability to work some evenings and weekends

- Reliable transportation
