Join our team in Battery Park! :

We are looking to hire a passionate and highly experienced early childhood educator to help support the Infant Classroom at Big & Tiny. This Assistant Teacher will work with children ages 3M-18M old at the Battery Park school.

The Assistant Teacher for our Battery Park school will serve as a representative for Big and Tiny in NYC, ensuring that Big and Tiny’s philosophy, quality, and care are being effectively implemented at this location. The Assistant Teacher will work closely with the rest of the opening team to develop a careful and creative arts-integrated early childhood education program and provide support in each of the classrooms as needed.

Our newest Big and Tiny Assistant Teacher is a creative and entrepreneurial team player that is passionate about working with children and families. They are confident, outgoing, organized, and self-driven, and are excited at the prospect of developing and growing at a new location with a tight-knit team.

Required Experience and Qualifications:

  • Minimum of an Associate's degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field of study from a college or university.
  • At least two years of documented experience as an infant assistant teacher
  • Experience with inquiry-based emergent curriculum approach -such as Montessori or Reggio Emilia- that uses self-directed, experiential learning in relationship driven environments is a plus.
  • Certified in Infant/Child First-Aid/CPR or willingness to become certified.
  • Strong organizational, communication, public relations, computer and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge and implementation of Article 47 child care guidelines and state licensing is a plus.
  • Have a comprehensive knowledge and proven success implementing programs for preschool aged children based on developmentally appropriate practices.
  • Live scan fingerprint/background check.
  • Fully vaccinated for Covid-19.
  • Speaks multiple languages is a plus.

As a Big and Tiny Assistant Teacher you will:

  • Support the Infant Classroom teacher in developing a careful and creative inquiry-based curriculum with an arts-integrated collaborative approach to learning.
  • Employ a variety of educational techniques (storytelling, educational play, etc.) to teach children.
  • Prioritize safety and social-emotional learning in all situations.
  • Observe each child to help them improve their social competencies and build self-esteem.
  • Guide children to develop their artistic and practical capabilities through a carefully constructed arts-integrated curriculum.
  • Help to organize nap and snack hours and supervise children to ensure they are safe at all times.
  • Document daily activities and share on a daily basis with families.
  • Maintain open, consistent and effective communication with parents, assistance and support as needed.
  • Meet with parents and teachers to keep parents up-to-date on their child’s development and progress, including discussing ways to address any learning or behavioral concerns.
  • Ensure the daily operations of the facility are safe for children. That includes checking that safety equipment is available and working, removing hazards and ensuring the facility is always clean and orderly.
  • Continually develop and implement Big and Tiny curriculum and program, working closely with the center’s teachers and staff, to create learning plans as needed.

Work Environment/Physical Demands:

  • Adapt and excel in a continuously changing environment, making the child's needs their primary focus.
  • Fully engage in physical activities with children by kneeling, stooping, sitting on the floor, standing for a long time, and dynamically moving in/leading group activities (i.e. jump, dance, walk).
  • Must be able to see/hear well enough to monitor the classroom to keep children safe at all times.
  • Occasional prolonged and irregular hours or weekend hours if needed.
