Reports To: GIS Routing Specialist

Evaluation: Classified

Summary Description of Classification: To ensure system accountability and assist in the safe and efficient operation of the Transportation Department by managing and analyzing data provided by the following systems: Route planning software, GPS software, electronic fuel management system, digital time clock, field trip software, fleet maintenance software, all applicable data bases.

Minimum Qualification Standards

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Provides technical support for the implementation and on-going usage of GIS-based routing software.

2. Uses GIS routing software to generate safe efficient route scenarios for analysis and implementation.

3. Analyzes, evaluates and refines all routes as created by routing supervisors to ensure compliance and efficiency.

4. Modifies bus routes as needed.

5. Facilitates and verifies accuracy of all logistical information provided by student information system.

6. Generates timely reports and data analysis as requested by the Director (route adherence, planned vs. actual reports, fuel usage, overtime reports, vehicle usage, mileage accrual, departure and arrival times, etc.)

7. Manages present and future transportation software systems and data bases.

8. Performs weekly payroll export to accounting department.

9. Manages and ensures accuracy of weekly payroll export.

10. Manages time clock data base (schedules, start times, etc.)

11. Monitors performance of all applicable bus video recorders.

12. Monitors the performance of all applicable GPS technology.

13. Analyzes, inventories, and reports on current technology and hardware/software within the transportation department.

14. Defines and recommends hardware and software upgrades needed to maintain compatibility within the system.

15. Collaborates with administrative and instructional technology personnel in the utilization of software and analysis reports.

16. Arranges and provides on-going training for Route Supervisors and other user of all applicable transportation software and web based applications.

17. Serves as a liaison between drivers, principals, employees, departments, community, and government agencies regarding routing and transportation issues.

18. Performs other related duties as required or assigned by the Director of Transportation.

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:

1. Knowledge of the field of school transportation.

2. Knowledge of scheduling and routing.

3. Knowledge of operations and procedures of the Transportation Department.

4. Ability to read and interpret maps.

5. Must possess personal characteristics and professional competencies to work successfully with teachers, administrators, bus drivers, support personnel, students, vendors, and the public.

6. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally, and in writing.

7. Technical experience and proficiency with database manipulations, GIS coding and mapping and report generation.

8. Must be proficient in installation, configuration, troubleshooting and upgrading of all applicable bus video and GPS systems.

Education, Training and Experience:

1. High School graduation or GED certificate required. Bachelor’s degree preferred.

2. Must possess strong computer skills. Must be efficient in Windows-based applications. Knowledge of ARC- GIS preferred.

3. Excellent written and communication skills required.

Certificate and License Requirements:

Physical Demands: Tasks involve the regular and, at times, sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and that may involve the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds).

SALARY/TERMS/BENEFITS:

  1. 239 day contract year; 8 hours per day
  2. Salary Range: Grade 29 (placement on salary schedule based on years of related experience). Up to ten years allowed. The stated salary range reflects the opportunity for pay over the course of the employee's tenure. For external candidates, the top pay is not a potential starting salary.
