Job Description

This position is responsible for performing engineering duties on a wide array of civil engineering projects, specifically with the Site Department. This includes private site design, public site projects, streetscapes, road projects, watermain extensions, sanitary sewer extensions, and drainage design.

Job Requirements

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs engineering tasks under close supervision; encouraged to solve engineering problems using experience, judgment and education but expected to ask for assistance when needed.
  • Compose and develop technical calculations, drawings, specifications, figures, reports, correspondence, proposals, and contract documents for project assignments.
  • Perform project design, including layout of proposed line-work in AutoCAD and application of state and federal design criteria.
  • Perform hydraulic analysis using either Autodesk Storm and Sanitary Analysis program or ICPR.
  • Analyze reports, maps, drawings, blueprints, tests, and aerial photographs on soil composition, terrain, hydrological characteristics, and other topographical and geologic data for project planning and design.
  • Research/Review code and permitting requirements for project sites as directed.
  • Calculates cost and determines feasibility of project based on analysis of collected data.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of bachelor’s degree in engineering from four-year college or university.
  • Has passed FE examination or ability to obtain within 6 months.

SKILLS and ABILITIES

  • Working knowledge of the computer design software AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Ability to successfully manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to participate and collaborate in project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought.
  • Ability to interpret sketches, drawings, building program and other similar material.
