The Civil Designer- I (CD-I) position is an intermediate to senior-level position. The CD-I is primarily responsible for the creation of three-dimensional (3D) design elements associated with Environmental, Planning, Transportation, Utility, Survey and Right-of-Way projects.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Collaborates with Project Managers, Engineers, Civil Designers and Civil Technicians to create accurate contract documents.
• Exhibits an advanced technical knowledge of applicable road, highway, bridge, sanitary & storm sewers, water distribution, airport, and site & greenways projects.
• Uses experience and direction provided by Project Managers, Engineers, or Civil Designers to create preliminary and final designs of horizontal & vertical alignments, grading, drainage, and sanitary/stormwater /water distribution systems; performs other design tasks associated with civil engineering projects according to company, client or regulatory agency standards, methods and procedures.
• Uses an intermediate to advanced knowledge of the various AutoCAD Civil 3D modules to create 3D models to be incorporated into the construction drawings.
• Uses AutoCAD Civil 3D or other analysis software including (but not limited to) Transoft AutoTURN or AeroTURN in the design process to identify conflicts or design issues.
• Assists the Civil Technicians with the assembly of construction drawing plan sets.
• Mentors and trains the Civil Technician job classifications as required.
• Completes assignments on time and within budget.
• Performs duties that may include (but are not limited to) those listed under the Civil Technician classifications; assist with regulatory approvals, quantity take-offs, bid estimates, field investigations and QC/QA.

• Associate degree in Civil Engineering Technology (or similar program) or 6-9 years of experience in Civil Design.
• This position requires demonstrated competency with AutoCAD Civil 3D and knowledge of Microsoft Office Products Word and Excel.
• Strong verbal communications skills and the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public are necessary.
