Job description

BFG Supply is a dynamic and fast-paced organization specializing in wholesale distribution to the greenhouse and lawn, garden, and grower industries. The high-level goals of this position are to ensure that the Danville, Illinois facility provides excellent customer service while also keeping an eye to safety, employee engagement, and warehouse operations excellence as we work toward our KPI’s and budget metrics.

We are seeking a Distribution Center Manager to join our team and oversee the efficient operation of our warehouse facility. Position Overview: The Distribution Center Manager will be responsible for effectively managing all aspects of our warehouse operations, including supervising an hourly workforce, implementing efficient processes, and ensuring a safe and organized work environment. This role requires a commitment to excellence, adaptability to seasonal demands, and a strong focus on continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

Warehouse Operations Management:

  • Supervise and lead warehouse staff, including unloading, receiving, put away, replenishment, cycle counting, picking, quality control checking, loading, and small package processing.
  • Efficiently manage day-to-day warehouse operations to meet productivity and quality targets.

Seasonal Staffing and Training:

  • Plan and execute the recruitment and training of seasonal/temporary staff to meet increased demand during peak seasons.
  • Ensure seasonal staff are adequately trained to handle high shipping volumes efficiently.
  • Seasonal aspect of the business requires commitment to long hours during busy season and swift ramp-up of seasonal/temporary staff with proper training to be able to handle the largest shipping days when warm spring weather hits.

Software Utilization:

  • Implement and utilize software solutions to streamline and optimize warehouse processes, ensuring efficient inventory management and order fulfillment.

Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs):

  • Develop, maintain, and enforce Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for all warehouse functions.
  • Regularly audit jobs to ensure SOPs are followed correctly.

Facility Maintenance and Safety:

  • Assume responsibility for the overall safety of the four-wall facility, equipment, and systems.
  • Oversee proper maintenance of the facility to ensure a safe and organized work environment.

Delegation and Team Management:

  • Delegate responsibilities as needed to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the warehouse.
  • Foster a collaborative and motivated team environment.

Data Analysis and KPIs:

  • Extract and analyze data using Excel and other tools, to identify root causes, trends, and needed actions related to warehouse performance.
  • Develop action plans to continuously improve key performance indicators (KPIs) reflecting branch performance.

Lean and Continuous Improvement:

  • Pull data, calculate metrics in Excel for root-cause analysis and action steps needed to continuously address and improve key performance indicators that reflect branch performance.
  • Implement and promote lean and 5S philosophies to drive efficiency, organization, and waste reduction in warehouse operations.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in warehouse management or a related field (a minimum of three years’ experience preferred; Bachelor’s degree in a relatable field, a plus).
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Proficiency in warehouse management software, handheld RF scanners, and Microsoft Excel.
  • Knowledge and experience with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), inventory control, workflow efficiency, and warehouse optimization.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities.
  • Ability to work extended hours during peak seasons.
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe and organized work environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Continuous improvement and project management experience required.
  • Experience working in a 5S and Lean environment.
  • Experience managing within budget constraints and meeting budget objectives.

Pay: $65,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
