Job Title: Director, Honors and Scholar Development
Reporting Structure: Executive Director, Student Success and Retention Services

Job Summary: With responsibility for providing the vision and strategic goals for the Bethune-Cookman University (B-CU) Honors Experience, the Director of Honors and Scholar Development will support and promote B-CU scholars by developing structured and robust co-curricular programming centered around academic excellence, scholarship, leadership, service, social justice, and career development in accordance with the University's Mission Statement. Through intentional mentoring and coaching programs, the Director will develop and implement initiatives that identify and encourage students to seek national and international scholarships and fellowship awards and promote the presentation of student research and creative endeavors. Additionally, the Director will serve as the Lead Instructor of the Freshman and Sophomore Seminars and student life skills/academic recovery courses (Sustaining a Promise). The Director will develop the curriculum for these courses to promote and encourage the scholarly development of all students. The Director will be required to report on program assessment and outcomes related to student academic and career success, retention, and graduation rates.
While the initial responsibilities of the position will be focused on co-curricular experiences, the Director should have a vision for continuous program expansion. Knowledge of academic requirements and experience in developing honors program curriculum is required.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Provide a strategic vision for the B-CU Honors and Scholar Development Program
Identify, recruit, and retain eligible students
Oversee the Honors and Scholar Development Program application process
Provide administrative oversight for the program to include the identification of key performance indicators, program assessment, and annual reports
Develop co-curricular programming focused on academic excellence, scholarship, leadership, service, social justice, and career development
Work collaboratively with on- and off-campus partners including, but not limited to, University administration, faculty, staff and community organizations, and employers
Promote and encourage student involvement in national Honors organizations
Mentor students through the application process for prestigious awards, scholarships, and fellowships, as well as graduate school applications
Coordinate with Student Success Coaches/Academic Advisors to monitor students’ completion of program requirements
Oversee the curriculum and instruction of Freshman and Sophomore Seminars and Sustaining a Promise Courses (includes supervising at least 10 adjunct faculty members each semester)
Required Skills/Abilities:
Knowledge and understanding of the organization’s goals, objectives, policies and procedures
Knowledge of and ability to implement national Honors program best practices
Knowledge and proficiency in computers, especially Microsoft Office applications
Understanding of curriculum development to meet the University’s General Education learning outcomes
Proficiency with Canvas LMS
Strong written and oral communication skills
Experience with program assessment and data-driven decision-making
Preferred Skills, Experience, and Education:
Master’s degree with at least 8 years of teaching or administrative experience at an institution of higher education
At least 3 years of experience teaching, mentoring, or advising university honors students
Demonstrated knowledge of honors program academic and co-curricular requirements
Physical Requirements:
Requires some physical effort, i.e., some standing and walking, frequent light lifting (5-15 lbs.); manual dexterity in the operation of office equipment, extensive periods of time at a keyboard, occasional hours outside the normal University schedule, and extensive travel.
