Today, Bethany is an international Christian nonprofit partnering with communities in more than 30 states and in several countries around the world. We strengthen and preserve families, support displaced people fleeing danger, and find safe, loving families for children who need them. Bethany is at the forefront of creating and implementing solutions to meet the growing needs of vulnerable children and families in the U.S. and around the world.

The Community Engagement and Events Coordinator will be primarily responsible for coordinating events and overseeing rental spaces within the Grand Rapids Center for Community Transformation (GRCCT). This individual will also oversee the mentoring program for youth ages 14-24 years of age while positively promoting the GRCCT within the surrounding community.

This position is expected to function effectively with moderate supervision while following the guidelines given on procedures, along with agency, federal, and state regulatory requirements.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinate the daily operation of events and rental spaces within the GRCCT building to include but not limited to file maintenance, communications, payments, set-up and teardown, and general event supervision;
  • Execute the Youth Mentoring Program by conducting surveys, match meetings, trainings, monthly events and completing case notes;
  • Co-facilitate Teen Outreach Program and Love Notes Curriculum, while also completing case notes, surveys, and curriculum building;
  • Assist with youth intakes and data entry for new participants or those transitioning to a new program;
  • Plan and coordinate with local volunteers and groups to host volunteer days;
  • Assist with donor engagement and fundraising through event planning, donor communications, and data entry;
  • Maintain GRCCT’s social media platforms and website, while also assisting with flyers needed for staff and other online support;
  • Collect data, quotes, photos, and other input data to assist in the completion of the Annual Impact Report;
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s level degree in Human Services, Social Work, or equivalent field of study from an accredited college;
  • At least one (1) year of event coordination or planning experience;
  • Prior experience in youth services, strongly preferred;
  • Must be CPR, First Aid, and AEC certified upon hire or within 60 days of hire;
  • Possess a passion for inclusion, equity, and sustainability;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication with strong interpersonal and leadership skills;
  • Strong project management, and organizational skills;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products;
  • Must be willing and able to work some evenings and weekends, as necessary;
  • Computer and typing skills sufficient to perform essential job functions;
  • Must be 21 years old with a valid driver’s license with at least 3 years driving experience to operate a vehicle on behalf of Bethany. Must also pass a Motor Vehicle Records (MVR) check and maintain a reliable vehicle with proof of adequate insurance coverage;
  • Pass a criminal history screen, including state and local child protection agency registries;
  • Subscription to and integration of the agency Statement of Faith, Mission Statement, and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Commitment.
We value and embrace the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion; our culture is strengthened, and our workplace is more dynamic. We are a global organization with multicultural staff, clients, and stakeholders, so we strive to create a workplace that reflects the communities we serve and where everyone feels empowered to bring their full, authentic selves to work. More work remains, but we are deeply committed to honestly acknowledging and addressing the impacts of race and racism throughout the organization. This work can be uncomfortable and even painful, but we believe that the greatest challenges bear the greatest rewards.
