Responsibilities

The Professional Lines Claims Examiner manages a book of claims within their authority. The ideal candidate will be knowledgeable in professional lines claims handling. The position reports to a Claims Vice President who will monitor the work and grant additional claims authority as training progresses.

This role will be based in our Stamford, CT office (hybrid work schedule). The Metro North train station is right across from our office building - less than a minute walk! 

Key functions include but are not limited to:

  • Manage a portfolio of claims 
  • Determine coverage and ensure accuracy of Cedant claim cessions 
  • Develop and maintain relationships with reinsurance brokers and cedants 
  • Establish reserves 
  • Book payments 
  • Complete file documentation 
  • Maintain claim files in a timely and accurate manner 
  • Conduct claim reviews as needed 
  • Maintain current knowledge of insurance lines and current clam procedures guidelines 
  • Provide analysis on trends/anomalies to Professional Lines underwriters and management 
  • Submit claims management reports as required for large exposure claims 
  • Engage in frequent and timely communication with Underwriting, Actuarial, and Management teams 
  • Participate in roundtable discussions 
  • Collaborate on Innovation initiatives 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree: law degree and/or insurance
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office; particularly Excel
  • 3-5 years of Professional Lines experience, reinsurance claims handling is a plus
  • Familiarity with policy/contract language
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills 
  • Ability to multitask
  • Strong attention to detail 
  • Travel domestically as required
  • Ability to work independently as experience dictates
