At Berco, we produce mission critical undercarriages for mining, construction, forestry and agriculture machinery. Together with our customers, we create long lasting solutions by combining know-how in design, forging, heat treatment, machining and assembling. We provide undercarriage components to OEMs(Original Equipment Manufacturers) for the first fit of the machines as well as the service parts to OEMs and to the independent Aftermarket.

Safety Responsibility

HSE Specialist

• Advise on health and safety technical, regulatory and program requirements
• Facilitate development and implementation of HSE Procedures
• Facilitate and ensure safety training meets needs and requirements based on annual training calendar and business trends
• Analyze and report performance data (meetings, training, activities, injury trends, etc.) on a weekly and monthly basis
• Assist department managers, supervision, engineering, and workplace committees, with creative approaches to improving safety
• Work with and or lead management and employee teams to improve safety performance
• Annually review all tk North America Environmental Health & Safety Audit Documents to assure adherence
• Facilitate overall Environmental Health & Safety program
• Set the example

Summary

The HSE Specialist reports to the HSE Leader or HSE Manager and supports promoting a safe environment for employees and fostering a safety culture.

Major Areas of Responsibility

• Reinforce safety as the top priority and value in plant operations
• Acts as a safety coach

Specific Responsibilities of the Job

• Lead with Safety by example
• Lead weekly/monthly safety trainings for each shift (1st 6:00am-2:30pm, 2nd 2:30pm-11:00pm)
• Routine, daily walkthroughs
• Complete Daily Safety Report
• Safety committee meeting leader
• Safety work order tracking and follow-ups on active items
• Audit or create JSA’s for each work area with employee
• Participate in 1 Behavior Based Audit per week
• Spot check Hoist/Ladder/Forklift inspection forms for completion
• Perform monthly inspections as needed
• Oversee/develop plant recycling program
• Assist with ISO 14001, ISO 50001 and ISO 45001 Certifications
• Maintain Safety Olympics program, train employees and advocate/encourage employee involvement
• Assist employees and workplace committees with creative approaches to improving safety
• Assist with Incident Investigations - conduct interview process, take pictures, obtain proper paperwork such as Employee Injury Report, any associated return to work papers
• Delegated as Plant Fire Protection Officer on off-shifts
• 5S Safety Areas (eye wash stations, fire extinguishers, oil drums, absorbent containers etc.)
• 5S Audits

Essential Functions

• Proficient in English Language
• Ability to work independently as well as with a team
• Walking in a manufacturing setting with multiple stairs and inclines

Travel

• Travel to other facility locations in North Carolina and Washington State will be required at least twice a year (Subject to Change)

Education / Credentials / Certifications

• High School Diploma/GED
• 1st Responder Certification (completion required within 1 year)
• EMT Certification preferred
• OSHA 10 Certification (completion required within 1 month)
• OSHA 30 Certification (completion required within 6 months)
• Internal auditor – ISO 14001, ISO 50001 and ISO 45001 (completion required within 12 months)
• Bachelor’s Degree in Safety or Industrial Engineering field preferred

Length of Experience

• Previous experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
