Bengal Transportation Services is Hiring a Safety Manager Near Parish, LA

POSITION SUMMARY

The Safety Manager is to administer, review and advocate all aspects of safety throughout the organization keeping the company in compliance with all Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations, any other applicable Federal or State agency, OSHA compliance and reporting. The Safety Manager is responsible for craft training/orientation, including new hires, and monitors employee safety. All safety personnel report to the Safety Manager and the Safety Manager reports to the Director of Safety.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Represents the company in legal hearings regarding accidents and injuries
  • Ensures compliance with current, new, proposed and applicable Safety Laws and Regulations
  • Inspect company facilities and recommend corrections or additional precautions to ensure compliance to established safety regulations
  • Revise current and implement new standards and processes for Safety Program. Maintain thorough record keeping and reviews in order to maintain compliance in accordance with all regulations of the Federal Highway Administration, OSHA and any other applicable agencies
  • Coordinate with maintenance department that records on all company assets are kept current in accordance with company policies and in compliance with the Federal Highway Administration regulations. Also, periodic visual inspections of assets will be required in addition to inspections and detailed company report, gathering of data and evidence, if applicable, of units involved in accidents
  • Collect, develop and distribute educational materials to Employees regarding Safety
  • Setup, maintain and revise employee bonus program based on criteria and current reporting using manager input and various software currently being used by the company
  • Coordinate Insurance renewals as needed
  • Collect data of relevant topics and report monthly through a company newsletter
  • Implement and manage Employee Safety Procedures and Accident Protection and Prevention
  • Design and conduct company training
  • Audit drive' logs for compliance and perform corrective action, as needed
  • Review Drivers DOT fines
  • Review Drivers Safety & Performance records
  • Review, distribute and coordinate compliance reports to drivers monthly
  • Coordinate Driver safety and performance information
  • Completes Accident Investigation and Accident Reports
  • Request copies of Accident Reports from applicable State agencies
  • Coordinate with Insurance Companies, Agents, Employees, Medical Facilities, etc., regarding accidents, incidents or injuries
  • Review, investigate and return all DOT Inspection Reports as required to the appropriate State agencies
  • Maintain MSDS Binder accurately and up to date and make available to appropriate personnel
  • Administer monthly Safety Meetings and address relevant agenda and topics and maintain sign in sheet for meetings
  • Audit JSA's for compliance and performs Corrective Action as needed
  • Attend and participate in "Lunch and Learns" with Customers
  • Perform Field Audits & report written findings to Management to ensure compliance
  • Maintain Employee certifications and training records to ensure Customer onsite compliance
  • Maintain Employee certifications such as CDL, physical expirations, TWIC, NCCCO, NCCER and site specifics
  • Perform random audits on company equipment making sure all paperwork is accounted for
  • Perform preliminary approval of Contracts/Subcontract administration for Customers/Vendors
  • Monitor SafeStat Online & report trends and ratings monthly
  • Coordinate and complete Customer pre-qualification forms
  • Coordinate Occupational and Injury Reports as required by Federal and State authorities
  • Coordinate accident register as required under Federal guidelines

EXPERIENCE / CERTIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma or equivalent; Associates / Technical Degree in Management, Business or equivalent on-the-job experience is preferred. Every 2-years of experience may substitute for and be credited toward each one year of formal education
  • 5-years equivalent experience
  • Microsoft Office, Internet Explorer / Google Chrome, Google Earth

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Physical demands that must be met by the Safety Manager to successfully perform the essential functions of this job:

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
  • Sometimes daily, weekly yard walks with key personnel as needed for equipment verification, key measurements, axle loads, weighing may be required of this position
  • May lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
