Job Description:


Zachry Industrial, Inc. is currently seeking a Group Safety Support Manager for a new construction project at VG – PLNG, in Plaquemines, LA and/or possibly other mega-projects.

The Group Safety Support Manager will interface with client management, corporate officials and Zachry safety management, the site manager, the Safety Task Team and all site employees. The primary responsibility is to promote and support the Safety Task Team in achieving a proactive, safe, healthy and productive work environment by coordinating the Safety Process. Provide leadership and direction for company’s Safety and Health efforts affecting the concept of a zero accident project.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Will manage EH&S at multiple locations to support large Joint Venture Projects, to include 3 to 4 Project Safety Managers with total staff of approximately 100 safety and health personnel.
  • Active and contributing participant on the Joint Venture Leadership Team.
  • Must have knowledge of OSHA 1926 and 1910 regulations and implement them along with Project Specific EH&S Policies and procedures and any other applicable standards, rules, and regulations governing the site.
  • Will manage root cause investigations, site audits, subcontractor EH&S compliance, new hire orientations, regulatory (required, refresher, and as needed) training, Heart of Zachry Program (or equivalent), and much more.
  • Assist in the development and support implementation of guidelines, policies and procedures consistent with the company’s efforts.
  • Network with Project Line Management regarding special challenges and specific client mandates relative to assuring adequate support of the Project Safety Initiatives.
  • Maintain a keen awareness of pending legislation and regulatory mandates, develop alternatives for the company to approach to compliance, communicate these issues through the Corporate Safety Team.
  • Work with Line Management regarding regulatory issues to provide for compliance with regulatory standards and company policies, including recordkeeping issues.
  • Work with Project and Corporate Management regarding regulatory complaints and inspections.
  • Work with the Corporate Safety Staff relative to legal and regulatory agencies to resolve complaints

  • Work with current staff to identify development opportunities through education, training and work experience. Advise Safety Staff if special training needs are evident.
  • Respond to questions from the field for “tools” and supplies. Coordinate these issues with the Project Management Team, and include the Corporate Safety Staff as may be required and appropriate.
  • Assist in making recordkeeping decisions regarding reporting of incidents and/or determination of recordability, and involve to the degree appropriate, the assistance and further guidance of the Corporate Safety Staff.
  • Review and monitor current Safety and Health Policies and Procedures as to their usability and appropriateness in field applications, recommend improvements and/or modifications as may be warranted, and sustain Project Line Management input.
  • Work with the Site Safety Team on special success assessments (audits), as required. Advise and assure the Site Line Management Team understands supports and assists as needed.
  • Initiate and monitor procedures for routine assessments, follow up with the Line Management Team regarding corrective action and appropriate path forward initiatives.
  • Provide input on the most effective approaches to training in specified areas that fit the specific situation of the field site location and/or divisional needs. Place emphasis on involving input and buy-in from Project Line Management.
  • Assure training completions are documented and available for proper assessment and subsequent action.
  • Cooperate with supporting timely and accurate field reporting deliverables to Corporate Safety. S
  • Cooperate with supporting timely and accurate field reporting of Worker’s Compensation related issues.
  • Review standard reports for trends and make recommendations from the data therein. Involve Project Line Management, as needed, to assure mutual understandings and ultimate success.
  • Stay abreast of the application and proper use of the company’s Drug and Alcohol Policy. Assure Project Line Management is kept in the decision making process.
  • Stay abreast of any efforts that the Site Management Team may initiate to prevent or resolve conflicts and disputes to company or regulatory directives. Network and participate with outside professionals and specified organizations regarding emerging issues, best practices, and regulatory compliance.
  • Interface with subcontractor management to ensure implementation of the site specific safety process, training process, and reporting requirements.
  • Coordinate and assist in safety evaluation as deemed necessary.
  • To interface, provide guidance and direction to the Safety Facilitator(s) and Industrial Hygienist in the following related areas.
  • Review all accident investigations, and ensure that corrective action in taken as required.
  • Provide leadership in the safety incentive processes.
  • Review and assist in the site fire protection process.
  • Review and assist in the site emergency evacuation plan.
  • Support Industrial Hygiene activities.
  • Support management with safety meetings.
  • Maintain an active and visible role in the site safety process, and provide a focal point for receiving, reviewing, and communicating safety process revisions and enhancements.
  • Support safety audit program and track deficiencies to completion.
  • Take necessary action to provide required resources for the Safety Facilitator(s) and Industrial Hygienist.
  • Assist in defining safety processes, and eliminating waste.
  • Listen to employee concerns regarding safety & health and take appropriate action.
Job Requirements:


Position Requirements:

  • Associates Degree in Safety or Bachelor’s Degree in any related field is required. Must have experience directly supervising a large staff of safety professionals
  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP)

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

Physical demands: Must be able to maneuver around a construction site with rough terrain. Climbing might be required. Must be able to lift 10 lbs.

Work environment: Will mostly work in office environment, but with ready access and capabilities to maneuver around construction site with rough terrain and occasionally work in extreme weather conditions.
