Payroll Administrator (Troy, MI)
Summary
The Payroll Administrator primary responsibility is payroll and will be responsible for all payroll and related activities. The position includes preparing, inputting and processing payroll data such as garnishments, taxes and benefit deductions and respond to employee payroll related questions. Additionally, this person will be responsible for the review of the electronic timekeeping software for completeness and accuracy and following up with employees and supervisors on clarification.
Payroll Administrator Responsibilities
  • Processes and prepares biweekly payroll which includes timesheet, pay adjustment, commission and other employee / payroll data. Tests run to view variances from final run. Once prepared, reviews payroll for accuracy.
  • Administers and provides assistance to employees completing payroll forms / paperwork.
  • Post-payroll transmittal, processes, reporting requirements, journal entries, and database updates.
  • Post-payroll employee notices (i.e. remittances / statements) and feedback when required.
  • Ensures proper maintenance of employee payroll files; maintains integrity of payroll database, periodic registers, and all related payroll reports.
  • Responsible for administration of the electronic timekeeper system – creating and maintaining new rules based on union negotiations and laws, creating new groups as needed.
  • Manage workflow to ensure all payroll transactions are processed accurately and timely.
  • Stays abreast of HR processing system.
  • Stays current in wage and tax laws.
  • Corresponds with federal, state, and local tax agencies as needed for set-up, close-out, or tax payment reviews.
  • Main contact and administrator for payroll tax (i.e. SUI, FICA, etc.) and year-end W-2 audit.
  • Assists all payroll related items during financial, workers compensation or DOL audits.
  • Works cooperatively with HR Department and Finance Department to accomplish department objectives
Payroll Administrator Qualifications
  • Associate's Degree or Bachelor’s Degree in Business/Finance/Accounting.
  • Minimum 4 years prior experience in multi-state payroll
  • CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) preferred
  • Payroll system experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of FLSA, DOL, and multi-state regulations
  • Prior experience in payroll data reporting and analytics.
  • Excellent skills using Microsoft Excel and Internet Explorer.
    • Strong knowledge of word spreadsheet software should include pivots and vlookup formulas
  • Strong skills using and understanding the flow of transactions in an integrated and automated payroll accounting system.
  • Excellent problem solving/judgment skills, and a high level of attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong organization skills, and the ability to work under pressure.
  • Ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks and meet all deadlines.
  • Strong work ethic and team player.
  • Ability to communicate with various levels of management
  • Ability to read documents and communicate professionally and clearly. Strong language and writing skills are necessary.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
  • Ability to apply common sense to carry out detailed written or verbal instructions. Analytical & problem solving skills are necessary.
Work Schedule
Full time. Monday – Friday 7:00am – 4:00pm. Flexible schedules available with the potential to work from home occasionally after 90 days!
