Belvidere Community Unit School District 100 is Hiring an Early Childhood Coordinator (11 month) Near Washington, WA

SALARY RANGE: Regionally Competitive and commensurate with experience

Job Description

Position: Early Childhood Coordinator

Reports to: Superintendent of Schools and/or designee 

Qualifications: PEL with a General Administrative or Principal endorsement Early Childhood experience

Terms of Employment: 11 month Employee 

Supervision: Certified Staff, Educational Support Personnel

Basic Function: Under the direction of the Superintendent or Superintendent’s designee, his/her primary responsibility is in the improvement of instruction with a majority of that time spent on curriculum and staff development and supervision of the Early Childhood program in a manner that it may operate smoothly and effectively.

Performance Responsibilities:

  1. Organizational Management:

    1. Maintain such records as may be necessary for the accurate accounting for the progress of each child, results of tests, health records, etc. including maintenance of student records deemed temporary and permanent.

    2. Prepare all reports required by local, state and federal offices.

    3. Advise all persons or organizations wishing to distribute fliers to students they must have prior approval from the Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources.

    4. Maintain all attendance records of students, as well as certificated and non-certificated staff; prepare monthly reports required by central office relative to employee attendance.

    5. Implement policies, rules and regulations of the district

    6. Implement the negotiated contract between the district and teachers.

    7. Schedule all classes.

    8. Keep abreast of changes and developments in the profession by attending meetings, reading professional journals and other publications and by discussing problems of mutual interest with others in the field.

  2. Communications Management:

    1. Communicate with the staff through staff meetings, handbooks and other written or verbal communication to clarify instructions, consider mutual problems, interpret/implement policies and procedures, understand rules concerning the use of the school’s facilities, lunch-hour duties, playground supervision, marking report cards and other records, understand emergency response plans, understand health practices, patrol, etc.

  3. Advise the Superintendent of the needs of the program number of teachers required, material, and textbooks, etc.

  4. Cooperate with parent-teacher associations and parent groups.

  5. Confer with parents as the need arises concerning the progress or difficulties of their children.

  6. Send communications to parents as needed.

  7. Develop a program of public relations in order to further the community’s understanding and support of the educational program. .

  8. Give direction in the discussion and resolution of (1) individual student problems; (2) individual teacher problems; and (3) teacher-student problems.

  9. Cooperate with parents or parent groups to interpret and more fully inform them as to district policies and procedures.

  1. Personnel Management:

    1. Supervise all personnel and the operation of the program in order that its maximum efficiency may be maintained.

    2. Conduct interviews and recommend employment for prospective applicants for vacancies.

    3. Make recommendations to the administration regarding collective bargaining negotiations.

    4. Orient new employees to program routines and procedures.

    5. Process leave of absence requests.

    6. Perform evaluations of certified and non-certified staff pursuant to the district evaluation plans. Principals are responsible for conducting all evaluations of certified special education staff that are District #100 employees (e.g., resource teachers, related service personnel) with collaboration from the special education department/supervisor. The principal shall be responsible for evaluating all non-certified staff.

    7. Recommend to the Superintendent and school board non-renewal, remediation and/or dismissal of certified and non-certified staff.

    8. Recommend to the Superintendent and school board disciplinary actions regarding certified and non-certified staff.

    9. Conduct staff meetings to keep staff informed of policy changes, new programs, etc.

    10. Assign and assist substitute teachers and substitute paraprofessionals to provide the most effective programs possible.

  1. Student Management:

    1. Be responsible for the registration of all children and assign them to classes.

    2. Establish guidelines for proper student conduct and maintain student discipline in coordination with the district policy and procedures for student discipline. 

    3. Confer with parents as the need arises concerning the progress or difficulties of their children.

  2. Instructional Management:

    1. Be the instructional leader of the program by supporting and educating students in all academic areas.

    2. Implement the state standards and school improvement plan.

    3. Visit classes.

    4. Conduct evaluations of certified staff.

    5. Facilitate in-service training of the staff to make the staff’s teaching more effective.

    6. Maintain program level committees to improve instruction.

    7. Review student data and adjust instructional methods and contents accordingly.

    8. Collaborate with staff on short and long term goals and planning. 

  3. Services Management:

    1. File a report of all serious accidents with the Chief Financial Officer. 

    2. Follow district policy and Illinois law when excluding students from school due to a chronic or communicable infectious disease.

    3. Consult with the nurse on matters of health.

    4. Enforce all provisions in the Illinois Compiled Statutes referring to health.

    5. Supervise auxiliary services such as cafeteria, transportation, maintenance, etc.

  4. District Wide Obligations:

    1. Serve on district committees.

    2. Participate in district wide principal meetings and other meetings as required or appropriate.

  5. Special Education:

    1. Coordinate with the Director of Special Education or his/her designee, special education services including but not limited to referrals, testing, IEP meetings, and provision of services.

    2. Notify the Director of Special Education or his/her designee of any concerns regarding services provided to the students.

  6. Financial/Business Management:

    1. Prepare budget requisitions and compile them for approval by the Board and maintain adequate inventory records.

    2. Supervise the custody of all monies collected (book rent, gym rent, cafeteria, etc.)

  7. Perform other related duties as may be assigned from time to time.

Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Administrator Evaluation Plan.
