Belle Creek Charter School is Hiring a Dean of Students Near Henderson, CO

We are seeking a dedicated Dean of Students for the upcoming school year. Position will start on July 1, 2024.

About the Position:

The position of Dean of Students is established for the purpose of enriching and enhancing the school’s ability to maintain an environment that meets the educational and emotional needs of all of our students in a safe environment. To this end, the Dean will be responsible for ensuring that high behavioral expectations are consistently communicated and maintained. The Dean of Students will work with students, teachers, and parents to ensure a strong learning-based environment, centered around the culture and core values of the school. The Dean of Students is primarily responsible for discipline issues with students and school safety coordination. The Dean of Students will report directly to the Executive Director.

Belle Creek provides its students a rich and immersive learning experience in kindergarten through eighth grade. In addition, K-3 students are taught using the Orton-Gillingham approach, which is direct, explicit, systematic, and sequential instruction incorporating multi-sensory learning. This instruction aligns with the Science of Reading.

What support does BCCS offer teachers and students?

We provide several levels of support for students and teachers by having grade-level instructional paraprofessionals, a Dean of Students for behavior support and coaching, and a Dean of Curriculum and Instruction for mentorship and support. For additional support, we have Gifted & Talented and Culturally & Linguistically Diverse Education Coordinators and a Literacy Specialist. Additionally, we have a Special Education team that includes special service providers for Speech and Language, Occupational and Physical Therapy, and a comprehensive mental health team.

Our building recently expanded, including a state-of-the-art performance stage, art room, life skills classroom, and a science lab. Salary Range:

24/25 salary ranges are under review at this time. The hiring salary for a dean of students at Belle Creek will range from $55,000 to $75,000 annually commiserate with education and experience.

Required Qualifications:

  • A bachelor's degree in education, educational leadership, counseling, or related field, or comparable work experience.

  • A master’s degree is preferred, but not required.

  • Three years of successful teaching experience.

  • Previous administrative or leadership experience is preferred.

  • Bilingual, preferred but not required.

  • Colorado Department of Education “In Field” by CDE endorsement or qualification to teach the posted subject area.

  • The ability to handle many complex tasks simultaneously.

  • The ability and interest to be part of a high-functioning team. (Having respected and trusted colleagues, preferably as teammates, makes the demands of teaching sustainable.)

  • The ability and interest to learn continuously and to adapt to changing circumstances (student characteristics, curriculum, and so on.)

  • A belief in empowering all children as owners of their learning.

Essential Requirements:

  • Uphold the mission, vision and core values of Belle Creek Charter School.

  • Ability to assist in developing school plans and organizational procedures for the health, safety, discipline, and conduct of students as established by district procedures

  • Ability to work harmoniously with others and to communicate effectively (both orally and in writing) with students, parents, teachers, and the community

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality

  • Ability to communicate with individuals of varied cultural and educational backgrounds

  • Ability to keep and maintain accurate records and meet deadlines

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Think critically about academic and non-academic issues, in order to ensure that students are getting the support they need to maintain high levels of performance.

  • Collaborate with students, teachers, and parents to ensure that all students are successful in our academically rigorous setting.

  • Strong understanding of the implementation of PBIS and Restorative Practices.

  • Work to establish and maintain a positive growth-oriented culture that reflects our core values.

  • Observe classrooms to evaluate and assist staff in maintaining high levels of academic and classroom management expectations consistent with established policies and culture.

  • Coaches staff as needed to establish a strong classroom community that has clear expectations and routines.

  • Monitors behavior pull-out and in-school suspensions.

  • Leads professional development opportunities focused on classroom management, school culture, and parent involvement as it pertains to discipline and school safety.

  • Maintains systems for documenting and communicating behavioral issues as it pertains to discipline.

  • Make recommendations to the administration for chronic discipline matters.

  • Collaborate with the faculty in the enforcement and implementation of the rules and other regulations of the parent/student handbook to effect positive student behavior in the school.

  • Assist in the supervision during student arrival and departure of students in order to minimize confusion and help ensure student safety.

  • Serve as a backup for classroom instruction on an as-needed basis.

  • Facilitates meetings including safety for the purpose of coordinating agendas and ensuring that outcomes achieve school, district, and or state objectives.

  • Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality when dealing with a student, staff, and or parent information

  • Maintain a high level of professional knowledge about effective instructional strategies and scheduling options, for the purpose of providing excellent education.

  • Participate in administrative meetings and other meetings as required or appropriate.

  • Assist in the planning, developing, and implementing of individual student behavior plans and programs to promote positive student behavior as well as intervention strategies

  • Intervenes in occurrences of inappropriate behavior of students and/or parents for the purpose of assisting students in modifying inappropriate behavior, developing successful interpersonal skills, and/or initiating disciplinary action.

  • Assist in monitoring and supervision of school facilities

  • Supervises students in school and community settings, for the purpose of assuring their safety and decorum.

  • Other duties as assigned
