We are looking for a Registered Nurse (RN) Unit Manager to care for our patients and facilitate their speedy recovery. You will also be responsible for educating them and their families on prevention and healthy habits. The ideal candidate will be a responsible, well-trained professional able to give the best nursing care with little supervision. You will be able to follow health and safety guidelines faithfully and consistently. The goal is to promote a patient’s well-being by providing high quality nursing care.

Summary

The Unit Manager uses both administrative leadership and clinical expertise to assure comprehensive care and treatment is rendered to the resident/patient population.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

1.Utilizes expertise in the leadership role as a manager of an assigned unit.

2.Collaborates with the Director of Nursing in maintaining adequate nursing coverage to provide safe nursing care; effectively utilizes existing manpower limiting use of overtime and agency personnel.

3.Develops, implements, and evaluates protocols/standards of assigned unit while following the proper approval channels.

4.Implements progressive discipline when necessary, based on corporate and/or clinical policies.

5.Provides professional guidance, supervision, and encouragement to professional and non-professional staff.

6.Conducts periodic meetings on all shifts with staff and other members of the interdisciplinary team to disseminate information, develop unit protocols, establish unit goals, initiate implementation, and evaluate effectiveness of these processes.

7.Attends clinical and interdisciplinary meetings as requested.

8.Assumes nursing administrative responsibilities of the facility for weekend and holiday coverage as requested.

9.Participates in the development, implementation, and evaluation of quality improvement activities for the facility and/or unit as requested.

10.Identifies educational needs of the staff and collaborates with the Director of Education and Quality (DEQ) to address the needs.

11.Demonstrates, teaches, and evaluates nursing skills of staff utilized in direct resident/patient care.

12.Provides consultation in developing and implementing discharge plans in collaboration with the resident/patient, family, and interdisciplinary team.

13.Evaluates written and verbal communication provided to and received from other modalities regarding continuity of resident/patient care and takes appropriate action.

14.Prepares written reports, reviews records, and participates in data collection as indicated.

15.Monitors compliance with overall clinical systems on the unit i.e. Falls management, Weight Management, Standards of Care, Pain Management and Medication Administration.

16.Audits every new admission/readmission within 24 hours for appropriate transcription of orders and ensures initial plan of care was developed by admitting nurse.

17.Visits all new admissions to determine overall satisfaction and accommodation of needs.

18.Assists staff nurses with daily functions and routines as needed, i.e. resident/patient assessment and evaluation, physician notification, documentation, medication, treatments. Assumes direct care nursing duties as needed.

Qualifications

1.Graduate of an approved school of nursing with an RN degree and a minimum of two years of nursing experience. Prefer some supervisory experience

2. Must hold current valid nursing license in the state in which employed.
