Educational Assistant
FY25

Description:

To enhance the academic and social/emotional development of each student according to the student’s capacity for growth through the support of students, teachers, and administrators

Responsibilities:

Provide small group or 1:1 instruction under the supervision of the classroom teacher.

Substitute for classroom teacher, as assigned.

Reinforce the principles of social interaction programs by modeling positive behavior, e.g. Open Circle.

Assist teacher with supervision of students on a field trip.

Escort students to designated areas throughout the building (activities, fire and crisis drills) as directed by the teacher and/or Principal.

Provide supervision for non-academic activities, including recess, lunch, and dismissal, as scheduled.

Support classroom routines and procedures as established by the classroom teacher.

Assist with and/or provide discipline to students in accordance with school expectations.

Apply computer and technology skills to assigned tasks.

Assist classroom teacher(s) with such tasks as data entry, word processing, printing, and copying, as necessary.

Maintain school security policy regarding visitors to the building.

Perform other support duties as assigned by the Principal.

Assist with the arrival and departure of students, as scheduled.

Assist classroom teacher to help student meet academic and behavioral expectations.

Be familiar with classroom routines and procedures.

Contribute to the efficient operation of the school.

Be discreet and respectful of confidential information.

Anticipate and effectively address unforeseen events associated with working with large groups of children.

Be flexible and adaptable in moving between various duties.

Be familiar with school expectations and operations.

Maintain positive relations with students, parents, staff and the public.

Specialty Areas:

Passion for working with children/students.

Basic knowledge of child growth and development. 

Knowledge of basic learning strategies.

Knowledge of basic behavioral strategies.

Physical and Environmental Demands:

The physical and environmental demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

Normal school environment.

Ability to monitor active students during lunch/recess and other nonacademic periods.

Physical ability to be outside (when appropriate) during non-academic duties.
