Duties and Responsibilities:

An oiler must provide grease, oil, lubricants or fuel to all engines, motors, machinery, gear boxes, cogs on wheels, conveyor belt drives, etc. to keep the equipment n good operating order. Proper maintenance will prolong the life of the equipment and make it run more efficiently, meaning less breakdowns. An oiler’s main job is to keep machinery, motors and drives oiled and lubricated.

Primary Duties:

• An oiler is the one who applies or puts oil and lubricants on machines, motor and drives continually as prescribed by preventive maintenance manuals and manufacturer.
• An oiler is the one person who monitors the condition of the machines, motors, and drives to alert their supervisor when possible maintenance is required based on wear to the equipment.
• The oiler is responsible for making sure that all machines, motors, and drives are in good running order.
• An oiler is responsible for reporting and alerting their supervisor the condition all of the engines where they work.
• Motors, machines and drives, etc. must be monitored constantly and oiled.
• Must know the correct oil or lubricant to use on the different machines, drives, gears, and etc.

Secondary Duties:

• Perform other jobs as your supervisor may assign you.
• Keep your work area clean and orderly at all times to avoid slips, trips, and falls.
• Must wear proper PPE at all times when working.
• Must stay hydrated during hot weather.
• Must use proper lifting techniques when lifting heavy or awkward loads.
• Must be aware of your surroundings at all times when you are working oiling equipment.
• Must be aware of other workers in the area when oiling or lubricating equipment.
• Must manage your time well.
• Must be willing to work in a dusty or dirty environment and be exposed to the outside elements even though most of the work will be performed under a shelter.

Skills needed to perform the job:

• Must be capable of reading and writing.
• Must know basic math.
• Must have some mechanical aptitude to know how to go about locating grease and lubricant fittings to lubricate the equipment.
• Must have some knowledge of machine prints and diagrams.
• Must be willing to work unusual schedules to lubricate equipment when the equipment is not in operation.
• Must be capable of lifting up to thirty-five pounds.
• Will be required to bend, kneel, stoop and reaching continually on the job.

Must have at least up to one-year experience performing this type of work.
