Job Summary :

Provides technical support for manufacturing departments in the area of mechanical maintenance. Works directly with Manufacturing Supervisor and Process Engineering Supervisor when design changes would yield benefits.

This position is accountable in obtaining required throughput rates and works with and through the Production and Engineering to achieve these goals.

This may require this position to train technical people on machine adjustments and maintenance as well as machine monitoring to diagnose problems.

This position and the Manufacturing Supervisor run the Production areas on their respective shifts through working together to resolve technical / mechanical deficiencies as well as on areas that personnel lack training and expertise in mechanical areas.

Job Responsibilities : (Primary Duties, Roles, and / or Authorities)

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The essential functions of this position include but are not limited to :

Diagnoses and corrects mechanical malfunctions.

Performs training and mentoring of setups and technical operators to build skills and abilities.

Monitors and improves machine uptime and throughput rates to improve Plant financial performance.

Identifies areas of system weaknesses and works through and with leadership on solutions.

Recommends changes to the preventive maintenance program to Process Engineering Supervisor.

Performs major machine repair and overhaul as required, initiating purchase requisitions when outside repair is needed.

Advises Parts Crib Attendant of parts needed for immediate use or for stocking locations.

Manufactures and repairs parts as appropriate.

Works with Electrical Technicians if electrical modifications or programming changes would be beneficial.

Education and Experience :

Education

Requires at least one year of formal training in mechanical trades or equivalent related experience.

Experience

Requires a minimum of 3 years mechanical technical experience.

Knowledge and Skills :

Mental Requirements

Ability to read, write and understand English.

Equipment Use

Ability to operate fork truck, pallet truck, small hand tools, electronic etc. in successful completion of tasks. Must be a licensed forklift operator.

Physical Requirements

Level 4

Heavy Work : Exerting 50 to 100 pounds occasionally, or 25 to 50 pounds frequently, or 10 to 20 pounds constantly. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Medium Work

The worker is subject to both environmental conditions : Activities occur inside and outside.

Worker is subject to noise : There is sufficient noise to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard above the ambient noise level.

Worker is subject to vibration : Exposure to oscillating movements of the extremities or whole body.

Worker is subject to hazards : Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals and broken glass.

Worker is subject to atmospheric conditions : One or more of the following conditions that affect the respiratory system or the skin : Fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, or poor ventilation.

Worker is subject to oils : There is air and / or skin exposure to oils and other cutting fluids.
