SummaryWe are seeking a dynamic and experienced hands-on 6S and Lean Specialist to spearhead our continuous improvement efforts. As a hands-on 6S and Lean Specialist, you will be responsible for actively leading and executing 6S and Lean initiatives on the shop floor, working closely with frontline employees to drive sustainable improvements in safety, quality, delivery, and cost. This role requires strong leadership skills, technical expertise, and a very hands-on approach to problem-solving.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesThis list of duties and responsibilities is not all inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities as management may deem necessary from time to time.
  1. Lead by example by actively participating in 6S and Lean activities on the shop floor, including sorting, setting in order, shining, standardizing, and sustaining (5S), as well as implementing Lean principles and tools such as value stream mapping, root cause analysis, and mistake-proofing.
  2. Work closely with frontline supervisors and operators to identify opportunities for improvement and implement practical solutions to eliminate waste, improve workflow, and optimize processes.
  3. Conduct regular Gemba walks to observe operations, identify non-value-added activities, and engage employees in problem-solving and continuous improvement efforts.
  4. Facilitate hands-on training sessions and workshops to educate employees on 6S and Lean principles, tools, and techniques, and provide coaching and guidance to ensure understanding and application.
  5. Partner with cross-functional teams to implement standardized work processes, visual management systems, and performance metrics to sustain improvements and drive accountability.
  6. Lead Kaizen events and rapid improvement projects to address specific challenges or opportunities for improvement, utilizing data-driven methodologies to achieve measurable results.
  7. Collaborate with maintenance, engineering, and other support functions to address equipment reliability issues, optimize maintenance processes, and improve overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).
  8. Track and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) related to safety, quality, delivery, and cost, and develop actionable insights to drive continuous improvement and achieve operational excellence.
  9. Foster a culture of continuous improvement and employee engagement by recognizing and celebrating achievements, encouraging participation, and promoting a mindset of innovation and excellence.
  10. Take a hands-on approach in performing 6S and lean projects on the shop floor. It is expected for this position to spend 80-90% of the time on the shop floor.
Education and/or Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial/Manufacturing Engineering or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 2-5 years of hands-on experience leading 6S and Lean initiatives in a manufacturing or operational environment, with a proven track record of driving measurable results.
  • Strong technical knowledge of 6S and Lean principles, methodologies, and tools, including but not limited to 5S, value stream mapping, standard work, visual management, and root cause analysis.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage and motivate frontline employees, build rapport, and foster a collaborative team environment focused on continuous improvement and operational excellence.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to identify issues, analyze data, and implement effective solutions in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate complex concepts clearly and concisely and influence others at all levels of the organization.
  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification (e.g., Green Belt, Black Belt) required, Project Management certification preferred.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours and travel as needed.
