BCC-NIH is Hiring a Senior UX Designer Near Bethesda, MD

Senior UX Designer

We are currently searching for a Senior UX Designer to provide support to the National Institutes of Health (NIH). This opportunity is a full-time position at NIH in Bethesda, MD and/or remote.

As a UX Designer, you will lead definition of the design work and deliver business outcomes across multiple product teams, with minimal guidance and coaching.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Identify insights from customer research and bring them to life through personas, customer journeys, insight-opportunity, frameworks, system maps, workflows, and usecase scenarios.
  • Defining vision and strategies for each project through domain expertise, internal and external best practices, and by identifying opportunities for continuous improvement and innovation
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, project manager, enterprise architects, software engineers, and other experience designers to understand the goals and requirements necessary to meet business objectives.
  • Demonstrate clear understanding of user-centered design and be an advocate for the user.
  • Capture requirements and create workflows, wireframes, prototypes and fully fleshed out designs.
  • Establish and communicate design vision, principles and ideas via concept sketches, storyboards, lo/hi fidelity wireframes and prototypes.
  • Serve as part of the leadership team steering end-to-end digital transformation projects.
  • Create research plans and conduct user research and usability sessions.
  • Effectively demonstrate strong problem-solving skills, customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Present design decisions to stakeholders.
  • Utilize Lean and Agile methodologies.
  • Present design concepts and research findings to partners and senior leadership.

 Requirements

  • BS or MS degree in graphic/web design and visual communication, and a minimum of five (5) years’ of design experience for digital products or services in combination of following:
  • 4-8 years of experience, including team leadership
  • Experience with a wide range of wireframing, visual design, and prototyping tools (e.g., Figma, Sketch, Adobe Creative Suite, InVision, Axure, et al.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Factors, Design, Psychology, Sociology, or related field
  • Experience conducting usability tests (including with users with disabilities) a plus
  • Experience working with SCRUM in an Agile environment a plus
  • Strong ability to communicate UX design decisions and UX best practices
  • Subject Matter Expertise in Accessibility (508/WCAG) a plus
  • Group facilitation and teaching (design thinking) skills a plus
  • An online portfolio that demonstrates outstanding product and design thinking
  • Subject Matter Expertise in interaction design
  • Very strong verbal and written communication skills. Fluent in spoken and written English
  • Ability to manage time and independently manages competing, simultaneous projects and deadlines
  • Proficiency designing high-fidelity mockups and developing prototypes using Figma, Balsamiq, Invision, Sketch or other industry tools
