Baylor Careers is Hiring a Senior Payroll Analyst Near Waco, TX

What We Are Looking For

The Senior Payroll Analyst develops an extensive understanding of the university’s payroll system to accurately and timely pay employees in compliance with federal and state laws and regulations. The Senior Payroll Analyst helps to assure proper tax treatment, accounting, and disposition of withholdings such as taxes, deductions for benefits, retirement contributions, and other deductions by utilizing appropriate analysis skills. The Senior Payroll Analyst’s activities are in support of all exempt employees including faculty, staff, highly compensated Administrators and Athletics Department staff.
A bachelor's degree, five years of closely related professional experience in processing payrolls for large employers or related accounting or financial analysis duties, and an active Christian faith are required. 

Knowledge of payroll and accounting principles, payroll methods, and federal and state tax regulations is required. A preference will be given to candidates with the following: 

  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification. 
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations verbally and in writing.
    Applications must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.

What You Will Do

  • Helps ensure proper payment of wages by using the in-house payroll system to correctly process salaries and supplemental payments containing a wide range of complexities for contract employees including faculty, Administrators and Athletic department staff/coaches. 
  • Generates records of payrolls showing each payee, detail of wages paid, associated withholdings for retirement, benefits, and other contributions, and taxes withheld in a timely manner. 
  • Uses a working knowledge of Human Resources policies, procedures, and data practices within the employee life cycle (hire through termination) and has an extensive understanding of impacts in the HR/Payroll system. 
  • Uses analytic tools to test and verify the accuracy of payroll data, coordinating with appropriate Human Resources and Payroll staff for timely corrections and adjustments. As needed, support other Payroll Analysts with research and resolution in data validation process.
  • Maintains payroll records and when necessary coordinates with Payroll Accountant to prepare accounting entries and in system employee balance adjustments in support of month/quarter/year end closing activities.
  • Extracts and analyzes data to ensure accuracy of payroll related expense, liability, and control accounts through system accounting processes.
  • Calculates adjustments for employee back pay, deferred pay, pro-rated pay, gross up pay
  • Processes off-cycle payrolls in accordance with policy, including communication of processes for off-cycle check runs. 
  • As needed, collaborate with Payroll Systems Analyst on root cause analysis and testing of system issues and improvement opportunities that impact payroll processes and deliverables.
  • Works collaboratively with Payroll Manager, Payroll Analysts, Human Resources staff, and others across the university. 
  • Provides superior customer service to assist employees or supervisors with understanding payroll processes, and supports escalated customer services requests. 
  • Contributes to the success of the university by performing all other duties and responsibilities as assigned, acting as a back-up for other positions as needed, maintaining high levels of accuracy, maintaining a professional demeanor and appropriate levels of confidentiality, and providing superior customer service in all interactions.
  • Meets strict processing deadlines. 
  • Performs other related duties as the supervisor may deem necessary.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned to support Baylor’s mission.
  • Ability to comply with University policies.
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
