GENERAL SUMMARY:
Summary:
Performs decontamination, sterilization, and processing of supplies and equipment used during invasive and non-invasive procedures. Responsible for pulling case carts for the daily surgical schedule, stocking and delivering cases to the Operating room. Will be assigned to different areas of Sterile Processing methods and strict adherence to established departmental policies and procedures.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & ACCOUNTABILITIES:
1. Prepares instruments and supplies through cleaning, packing, sterilizing and storing procedures.
2. Checks procedure trays and instrument and specialty equipment for sterilization, distribution or storage according to department standards.
3. Clean and inspects all instruments, containers and equipment according to the manufacturers specifications to ensure patient and employee protection.
4. Clean carts, surgical instruments, power and specialty equipment using washer-decontaminators, sonic washer and dryer, and cart washer per established procedures.
5. Produces clean, functional equipment and instruments 100% of the time. Knowledgeable of items requiring disassembly for cleaning, Items are reassembled correctly with all parts intact and functioning properly.
6. Adheres to Standard precautions guidelines when handling potentially contaminated instrumentation and/or equipment. Has thorough understanding of the special handling needs of items used on identified highly infectious cases, strictly adheres to personal guidelines as established by OSHA.
7. Performs housekeeping duties disinfecting work area, and restocking supplies.
8. Demonstrates competency in reprocessing and sterilization functions of surgical instrumentation.
9. Demonstrates knowledge of set assembly wrapping, labeling, and identification of all items processed in SPD.
10. Uses the computerized instruments tracking system in the performance of assigned duties, i.e. obtaining instrument count sheets, obtaining special handling instructions for instrumentation, documenting sterilization loads, and other assigned tasks.
11. Displays an understanding and awareness of and performs all duties in accordance with department and hospital mission and vision statement.
12. Maintain certification by participating in continuing educational activities.
13. Displays a commitment to the values of teamwork by building strong relationships with co-workers, other departments, and the surrounding community; and by being cooperative and collaborative in the performance of duties.
14. Follows department, hospital, Joint Commission, AORN, and other regulatory boards requirements always.
15. Accurately pulls instrumentation and supplies for OR cases carts according to physician preference card (pick list).
16. Efficient and punctual distribution of case carts, equipment, and stat supplies to the OR and maintain sterility and or cleanliness according to hospital protocol.
17. Return unused case cart supplies to sterile storage area.
18. Retrieve and review operating room schedule determines what case cart will be needed, ensuring all carts are complete, accurate and ready. Instruments should be scan to the shelves, case carts, and to the Operating Room.
19. Complete mandatory and unit-based competencies as directed.
20. All other duties as assigned within the scope and range of job responsibilities.
REQUIRED MINIMUM EDUCATION AND CREDENTIAL:
EXPERIENCE:
Required: Two (2) years of Sterile Processing experience.
Preferred: Four (4) years of related experience (Sterile processing and/or Operating Room).
