    Handy Middle School SUMMARY: To support teachers in the implementation of project- and problem-based learning (PBL) through training, coaching, and messaging of deeper learning instructional strategies.
    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Other duties may be assigned.
    • Serve as a PBL advocate, ambassador, and educator—developing and managing positive, consultive relationships with leaders and teachers throughout the school.
    • Models effective and differentiated PBL instruction for teachers.
    • Creates and delivers ongoing and embedded professional learning for teachers in PBL.
    • Assists teachers in aligning their PBL units and lessons with strong teaching methods, standards, and student data.
    • Provides meaningful feedback and coaching to teachers.
    • Connects PBL-implementing teachers with district, regional, and national networks of support.
    • Supports implementation of rubric-based assessment practices that support PBL and to provide meaningful feedback to students on attainment of essential skills.
    • Supports teacher use of learning management systems and and other instructional technology that supports PBL practices.
    • Facilitates teacher collaborative inquiry around project plans, individual lessons, or samples of student work.
    • Works closely and collaboratively with Instructional Support Specialists to support district goals.
    • Assists teachers in project planning through a uniform backward curriculum design process.
    • Supports research, data collection, documentation, and dissemination on work related to the school’s PBL efforts.
    • Develops and maintains relationships vital to the success of students, teachers, administrators, support staff, and community partners.
    • Makes presentations to various groups explaining the work that is occurring at the school and classroom level, including project focus, progress, and outcomes.
    • Serve as a member of the building leadership team.
    • Attend district, regional, and state professional development related to role.

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
    • Bachelor’s Degree with valid Michigan Teaching Certificate.
    • Demonstrated successful classroom teaching required
    • Experience with project-based learning and rubric-based assessments preferred
    • A teaching/learning philosophy compatible with the deeper learning models
    • Experience working in a peer coaching relationship preferred
    • Knowledgeable about instructional design and curriculum development
    • Proven credibility with peers
    LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedure, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of administrators, staff, students, parents and the general public.
    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plan and solid geometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
    REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
    OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, peers, parents, and community, skill in oral and written communication. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements, Board of Education policies, and applicable State and Federal laws.
