Job Summary

We are currently seeking a positive and energetic Talent Acquisition (TA) Intern for Spring and Summer Semester 2024 to join our collaborative TA team in the Human Resources function at Battelle. This position is onsite/hybrid located in Columbus, Ohio.

Battelle's Columbus-based Human Resources team provides consultative support to management and employees on strategic and routine human resources issues nationwide. Due to the wide range of assigned tasks, all members of this group have extensive exposure to and interaction with Battelle leadership and employees at all levels of the organization - and must therefore be equipped with appropriate collaboration and communications skills to adapt accordingly.

In addition to the major responsibilities below, our TA Intern will have the opportunity to work on special projects across functions and with managers and leadership to strengthen our talent acquisition function with the goal of advancing our position in the market as an “Employer of Choice”.

Responsibilities

  • Sourcing candidates for exempt and non-exempt scientific, technical, and professional candidates across multiple operations on contingent, proposal, and funded opportunities; ensures sourcing from a diverse applicant pool and practice inclusive recruiting strategies and tactics.
  • Matches candidates to job profiles; learns to conduct a thorough screening of candidates and provides recommendations for hires through telephone and in-person interviews. May assist with salary recommendations and extending offers of employment on behalf of Battelle.
  • Learn and utilize direct sourcing methods to identify candidates (including passive candidates) to develop a substantive pool of qualified and diverse applicants for each position. Develops and maintains wide networks for generating applicant referrals.
  • Develop competency with innovative recruitment technologies and AI tools to streamline the hiring process and improve candidate experience; utilize tools to develop a proactive approach to talent sourcing, building talent pipelines, and leveraging data analytics for targeted recruitment.
  • Develops understanding of compliance with applicable employment laws and policies; adheres to compliance, diversity, and talent acquisition processes.
  • Partners with the Battelle Intern and Co-Op program lead in support of the coordination and administration of the program, and participates in career events as a Battelle representative as needed
  • Assists hiring managers and recruiters with updating and creating positions and requisitions, and with posting requisitions in our Applicant Tracking System (ATS).
  • Partners with HR Operations to facilitate and support new employee onboarding.
  • Supports tracking of candidates in coordination with the talent acquisition team and the business. Communicates frequently with stakeholders throughout the recruiting life cycle.
  • Schedules Interviews in partnership with business line administrative staff.
  • Prepares and distributes standard and ad hoc reports.
  • Maintains a high level of integrity and discretion in the handling of confidential information
  • Other special projects as assigned. Brainstorms ideas and participates in activities to strengthen the HR team. Researches and summarizes best practices

Key Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s degree program in Human Resources or related field.
  • Must have two years of college experience completed
  • Commitment to delivering results; solutions oriented; good organizational skills and ability to multi-task
  • Outstanding customer service skills; sense of urgency; high-level of personal integrity
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to be detail oriented
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to work independently, but also a strong effective team player
  • Good judgment and decision-making skills
  • Applicants for this position must be a U.S. Person, as defined by U.S. export control laws

Preferred Qualifications

  • Exposure to SuccessFactors or similar applicant tracking system (ATS) and with CRM systems (i.e. Phenom or Handshake)
  • Proficiency with diversity initiatives (AA or EOE) and employment law
  • Proficiency with Boolean search techniques
