Description

Job Summary:

The Site Supervisor is responsible for the direction and supervision of all sports camp counselors, campers, and sports camp activities. They are responsible for the day-to-day planning, organizing, implementing safety, and coaching all aspects of the Sports Camp. This is an at-will position that requires a highly motivated, enthusiastic, and responsible person to work in a fun environment with kids and sports. This is an at-will position. Other duties and responsibilites include:

  1. Plan the summer in advance and plan more specifically for each weekly session and each day. Plans must be well thought out, presented to the Recreation Manager for approval, and regularly shared with the camp counselors.
  2. Supervise campers and staff on field trips and trips to the pool. Be responsible for the group, carry waivers and medical information, and be the point person at the event or facility upon arrival and throughout the stay. Handle payment upon arrival if needed.
  3. Actively participate in pool activities with campers. Instruct counselors to do the same.
  4. Review staff performance throughout the summer and assist the Recreation Manager in formally evaluating staff at the end of the season.
  5. Maintain good communication and contact with parents throughout the camps, informing them of issues that pertain to camp or, more specifically to their child, including any disciplinary problems.
  6. Communicate with the Recreation Manager regularly about problems, solutions, questions, concerns, and improvements for future sessions.
  7. Assist in record keeping, sign-in/sign-out, taking attendance, collecting waivers, keeping each child’s information sheet up to date, Epact, and filling out accident/incident reports as needed.
  8. Assist in organizing staff meetings, staff training, and communicate with staff. Maintain a good working, professional relationship with staff, delegating responsibility where appropriate.
  9. Direct and assist in keeping the facility, supplies, and equipment safe and available by reporting breakage and safety problems.
  10. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

High School graduate or equivalent. Must be at least 18 years old with an understanding of sports camp procedures—prior experience working with children required. Coaching and playing a variety of sports and sports equipment experience are required. Preference is given to those with a degree in education, recreation, or related field or comparable experience. Must have current CPR and First Aid training or willing to receive it through the park district prior to start date. Should have an outgoing personality with good interpersonal skills.

Schedule & Pay:

This is a part-time, seasonal position. Camp is Monday-Friday, June 3 – August 2, plus pre-season training and planning in late May. The expected weekly hours for this position are 15-35, with opportunities to earn more hours throughout the summer. Expected shifts are M-F 8:30-3:30pm.

Starting pay rate is $15 an hour plus applicable facility and program discounts.
