**Job Description:**

The Buyer is responsible for purchasing products and expediting orders to maintain set inventory levels. This position will: provide accurate and timely pricing and delivery information to the Purchasing Department, proactively evaluate vendor performance, and communicate to Supply Chain Management. It is the Buyers responsibility to balance the need for product against the need to reduce inventory. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

**Job Responsibilities:**

* Contact vendors with requests for quotes, delivery information, and cross-references.

* Serve as liaison between the company and suppliers.

* Serve as key contact with manufacturing for planning issues.

* Work with suppliers for improvement opportunities in terms of cost, quality, delivery, and lead-time.

* Analyze requirements (both system generated and manual) to ensure timely placement of purchase orders for goods/services. Place purchase orders using the ERP planning system.

* Proactively manage (and work with Manufacturing) to ensure suppliers are meeting the requirements of the company (delivery, quality rating, etc.).

* Expedite existing purchase orders, as necessary.

* Resolve pricing and receiving discrepancies with vendors, coordinate with Accounts Payable Department.

* Discuss defective or unacceptable goods with manufacturing, engineering, vendors, and others to determine source of trouble and take corrective action.

* Work with (knowledge of) manufacturing computer systems including work orders, inventory control, routings, and bills of materials (MRP ERP).

* Maintain proper balance of inventory, in areas of responsibility, to ensure availability when needed.

* Coordinate new product ramp-up schedules with NPD teams and plant.

* Manage product phase-outs such that obsolete inventory is minimized.

* Make capacity management recommendations.

* Monitor progress of actual product supply to schedule.

* Must have analytical, problem solving, team building, strategic planning, and change management skills

* Key metrics are supplier OTD, Inventory levels (DOS, turns), and supplier lead-time, and schedule attainment.

**Education/Experience:**

* Bachelors Degree in Business, Engineering, or related field is required.

* Five years of purchasing experience, preferably in the industrial goods industry.

**Qualifications**:

* Excellent communication and negotiation skills required.

* Excellent interpersonal skills required.

* Extremely organized and detailed oriented with excellent follow-up required.

* Strong analytical skills required.

* MRP (Infor XA / Mapics preferred) and Supply Chain knowledge required.

* Demonstrated proficiency with the following applications: MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint required.

* CPM certification preferred.
