Job Title Private Markets Analyst - Diversified Alternative Equity Department: Alternative Investments Location: Charlotte, NC Job Summary Barings Alternative Investments (“BAI”) is seeking a generalist private market professional to join its Diversified Alternative Equity (“DAE”) team. Portfolio Management: The candidate will be responsible for the support of portfolio management facilitation across DAE portfolio managers, middle and back-office functions, product management and legal, and the administration, reporting and servicing of all client accounts. Investment Management: Professional would also support investment management origination, underwriting, closing, and monitoring of a portfolio of private equity and real asset investments. Candidate will develop a deep understanding of DAE’s business and be able to articulate that knowledge internally and externally. The position will be located at Barings’ global headquarters in Charlotte, NC. The candidate will report to a senior professional on DAE team. Portfolio Management Responsibilities Responsibilities are focused on (i) supporting the Head of Portfolio Management (“PM”) across a wide range of business and operations activities and (ii) coordinating and facilitating consistent, accurate and timely output for internal decision making and external communication for the highest possible operational quality from DAE’s investment platform. Portfolio Management activities include: Work with the Head of Portfolio Management on a day-to-day basis and be fully trained across required roles and responsibilities Manage capital activity, allocation processes, accounting classifications and budgetary development Facilitate and lead, with engagement of all portfolio managers, client reporting activity Track pipeline deal opportunities for consideration across all clients Review and approve all external client materials, including the creation and distribution of all client pipelines and periodic reporting and presentation materials Act as a point of knowledge for portfolio targets, limits, dates, status, etc. Track deal status and allocations with outside counsel Maintain closed deal reporting and ensure accurate data flow through the PM systems Work closely with Barings IT on system issues and improvements Act as DAE’s secondary point of contact with Product Management, Business Management, Legal, Accounting, Client Onboarding, Compliance, and Technology teams Support business development activity through detailed performance data analysis and existing and prospective client presentations Support Product Management with RFP (Request for Proposal) assignments Participate and lead projects as needed under tight time constraints Investment Responsibilities Responsibilities are focused on underwriting strong investments and supporting growth and development of DAE’s private markets platform. Investment activities include: Assist in the origination activity of strategically targeted investment opportunities supportive of client objectives Support due diligence of private equity and infrastructure equity opportunities across primary funds, secondary funds, and direct equity co-investments sponsored by qualified private market established and emerging managers, and independent sponsors Facilitate the development of focused investment themes and author detailed investment memorandums Development of investment models to support the investment underwriting Provide post-closing monitoring and valuation of investment performance and views on future expectations Support of quarterly reporting requirements of our clients Travel to due diligence on-site meetings, annual general meetings, and industry conferences Qualifications Qualifications include: Bachelor's degree, preferably with a concentration in business, financing, accounting, or economics 2 years of investment banking, corporate finance, or commercial banking analytical skills Additionally, we are open, for the right candidate, to consider a person who possess other advanced quantitative modeling skills and who has a deep desire to learn and grow across the DAE private markets platform Other key qualifications include: Strong interest or experience in illiquid asset classes within alternative investments Prior experience across areas such as client engagement, cash management, portfolio monitoring and criteria measures, performance tracking and benchmarking, quality control management, and data analytics Strong ability to understand complex assignments with minimal oversight from senior staff, while completing required assignments accurately and on time Highly conscientious person who is intellectually curious, proactive, and diligent in attention to detail Excellent presentation capabilities and refined verbal and written communications skills Ability to develop strong working relationships with DAE and Barings colleagues, private market managers, portfolio company executives, and investors Ability to prioritize and multi-task in a changing environment with a high degree of independence, initiative, responsibility and accountability A high degree of proficiency and adaptability with various software programs including Excel, Word, Power Point, Outlook, and CapIQ Conduct ad hoc requests and analysis as needed Ability and willingness to travel predominately within the U.S. Barings is an Equal Employment Opportunity employer; Minority/Female/Age/Sexual Orientation/Gender Identity/Individual with Disability/Protected Veteran.
