Title : Counterparty Onboarding Associate

Location : Charlotte, NC or Chicago, IL

As a key member of Barings Counterparty Onboarding team, you will be responsible for the delivery of US operational services relating to Counterparty onboarding processes covering equities, fixed income and derivative broker onboarding reporting to the Counterparty Onboarding team lead.

You will work closely with both internal partners (trading, portfolio management, compliance, legal and Transaction Management etc.

and relevant external parties (counterparties, custodians). You will join the team of dedicated professionals responsible for performing all aspects of counterparty onboarding (derivatives, equities, fixed income) and maintaining settlement instructions along with managing broker trading permissions ensuring that effective processes and controls are in place.

You will demonstrate credibility with a proven competency and knowledge of the onboarding process along with maintaining key relationships both external and internal, as well as drive efficiency and accuracy to reduce risk in our processes.

Responsibilities :

• Work closely with Front office to onboard Equity, Fixed Income and Derivative brokers
• Work with Portfolio Onboarding Teams, Traders and Investment Teams to scope out derivative requirements for the various mandates / investment strategies
• Assist legal team with negotiations of relevant trading agreement (ISDA, MCA, MSFTA, FCM etc.)
• Setup and maintain brokers, standard settlement instructions (SSI's), desk types, confirmation routing and external system mappings in Aladdin’s Counterparty Maintenance tool
• Provide Portfolio and Barings KYC as requested
• Manage compliance broker rules
• Enable broker permissions in external and internal systems including, Fxall, Alert / CTM, Markitwire, Tradeweb and Counterparty Maintenance etc.
• Ensure portfolios are setup on Alert and work with custodians to maintain accurate SSI’s
• Setup broker collateral in deco per terms of derivative agreements
• Work with internal stakeholders to establish any custody market specific trading lines e.g. Hong Kong Stock Connect, Saudi Arabia, Vietnam, Colombia, Brazil
• Apply for LEI’s and make sure LEI’s are renewed in a timely manner.
• Work with DDQ / RFP teams to answer client questions

Qualifications and Skills :

• Full understanding of counterparty onboarding process, including KYC / AML and regulatory requirements.
• Understanding of products and documentation requirements for derivatives
• Solid understanding of operational risks and controls
• Knowledge of Alert, and standard settlement instructions
• Knowledge of Order Management Systems, in particular Aladdin
• Analytical ability to evaluate the root causes of the problems and aptitude to understand complex workflows
• Able to manage heavy workload, understand urgency, multitask and prioritize to meet deadlines
• Strong teamwork ethic whilst also having the ability to function without explicit direction, challenge yourself to learn new things and continually improve
• Effective communication skills, both written and verbal

Experience :

• 5 years’ experience in financial services
• Recent and relevant experience in Counterparty Onboarding
• Strong knowledge of ISDA, MSFTA, MRA, and FCM documentation
• Solid understanding of ISDA regulations and derivatives
