BALTIMORE COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS

JOB TITLE : Resource Teacher

REPORTS TO : Principal

DEFINITION : The primary role of the school-based resource teacher is to provide in-house expertise, service, and support in curriculum implementation for elementary/middle school. Provides a variety of services to include professional development, data analysis, and planning for instruction to support the academic programs. Performs other duties as assigned.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES :
  • Works collaboratively with the school-based leadership team to analyze data in order to support academic programs.
  • Assists teachers with the implementation of the instructional programs and assists teachers in developing their understanding of content.
  • Works collaboratively with teachers to co-plan, co-teach and model customized lessons based on formative assessment data.
  • Provides specific, targeted teacher/team support based on School Progress Plans and direction from school administrator.
  • Models lessons demonstrating research-based instructional strategies and best practices aligned to College and Career Ready Standards and delivered in a blended learner centered environment.
  • Assists teachers with the preparation of students for success on Baltimore County Public Schools (BCPS) and state assessments.
  • Provides academic instruction, intervention or extension, for small groups of students.
  • Supports teacher professional growth by providing professional learning aligned with identified teacher and school goals.
  • Collaborates with staff from the central curriculum offices to support the implementation of cohesive programs at the school.
  • Assists teachers and administrators in adapting academic curriculum to meet the needs of a diverse student population.
  • Maintains personal professional growth in elementary/middle school instructional practices.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
Education, Training, and Experience :
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in a field related to the assignment.
  • Three years of successful teaching experience which includes experience in planning and implementing professional development.
  • Master's degree preferred.

Licenses and Certificates :
  • Possession of, or eligibility for, a Maryland Professional Certificate is required.
  • Maryland Advanced Professional Certificate is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :
  • Strong elementary/middle school curriculum content.
  • Knowledge of effective instructional practices in elementary/middle; demonstration of strong communication and human relations skills; demonstration of effective organization and communication skills; demonstration of strong computer/technology skills.

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS :
  • The work of the Resource Teacher is performed in both office and classroom environments.
  • In the office, work includes the operation of office equipment and personal computers.
  • In the classroom, work involves instructional practice and interactions with students, staff.

Work schedules may include nights and weekends and will require occasional work beyond the normally scheduled hours.

  • A copy of your PRAXIS or other state test scores.
  • A copy of your MARYLAND IN-SERVICE COURSE SLIPS. (if applicable)
Pre-Employment Requirements:
  • All persons employed by the Baltimore County Public Schools, regular and temporary, are required to be fingerprinted and have a criminal background investigation (per COMAR) completed. The fee charged for fingerprinting is $109. An identification card will be issued which must be shown prior to employment.
  • Anyone offered employment is required to provide proper identification and documentation of eligibility for employment in the US.
  • If you have military experience you will be asked to provide a copy of DD214.
  • Official transcripts for all higher education must be received prior to contract signing.
  • Some positions will require employees to undergo a physical examination and/or drug testing.
  • All newly hired personnel must attend a Benefits Orientation session.
  • Additional job verification will be required for salary credit.
