The Director - School Success Liaisons (SSL) serves as a vital link between district priorities and school-level implementation. Using research-based coaching practices, the Director manages a team of experts in the fields of Literacy, Mathematics, Special Education, English Language Development, Early Learning and Early Career, that support school administrators, leadership teams, and school-based educators in enhancing their capacity in achieving district goals. This position fosters a culture of continuous improvement, providing guidance and training to ensure that all staff who support schools as School Success Liaisons are aligned in purpose, practice, and implementation. Additionally, the Director is responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with Instructional Leadership Executive Directors, Academics' Executive Directors and Directors, and school- based leaders to ensure the implementation of a coherent model of school-based support across campus and disciplines.

Essential Functions
  • Directs and supervises a team of SSLs, who utilize research-based coaching practices to directly support school administrators, leadership teams, and school-based educators to enhance their capacity in achieving district goals, with a focus on meeting the needs of a full continuum of diverse learners.
  • Defines strategic direction for area of responsibility and leads assigned teams in developing
    recommendations for strategic long-term goals related to the assigned area of responsibility.
  • Creates and manages budget for area of responsibility. Develops and monitors time and expense project budgets. Develops project plans, work breakdown structures and schedules required to successfully complete projects on time and within budget constraints.
  • Works in coordination with Instructional Leadership Executive Directors (ILEDs) on the strategic deployment of SSLs.
  • Plans and controls staffing and performs other human capital, finance, and payroll related functions for assigned employees.
  • Manages assigned teams in the development, design, review, implementation and periodic reevaluation of project plans and strategies to support the achievement of the departmental goals and objectives.
  • Provides appropriate supervision, mentoring, and professional growth and development opportunities to assigned staff. Such responsibility includes the development and implementation of professional growth plans to include keeping abreast of current developments, literature, and technical sources of information.
  • Develops and implements cohesive and on-going professional learning that builds the capacity of SSLs in the area of coaching and school support.
  • Serves as a liaison between district leadership, school administrators, and frontline educators, fostering collaborative partnerships to support continuous growth and improvement.
  • Leads to a culture of shared learning, innovation, and continuous improvement with SSLs and across learning opportunities in the district.
  • Develops and supports implementation of consistent, aligned, and efficient coaching systems, strategies, protocols, and resources across SSLs school support.
  • Establishes metrics that can be used to progress monitor the cohesion and effectiveness of SSLs' support in schools. Routinely briefs Academics' leadership team on results of progress monitoring.
  • Leads collaborative learning walks to collect qualitative data as part of routine data cycles to evaluate the effectiveness of coaching support in schools so SSLs may make appropriate adjustments.
  • Accountable to student growth and performance metrics for those students impacted by SSLs' support in schools.
  • Communicates effectively and routinely with school administration to identify support needed for school-based educators, evaluate the effectiveness of the support, and identify next steps.
  • Meets regularly with ILEDs and Academics' Leadership and SSLs to analyze data to monitor impact and inform strategic decision making.
  • Leads strategic, logistical, and content planning of CLN and systemic professional learning for school-based staff during the school year.
  • Supports planning of professional learning during the summer, inclusive of Summer Institutes for school-based leaders and instructional staff.
  • Ensures all coaching activities are aligned with district goals and priorities, focusing on measurable impact and student achievement.
Desired Qualifications
  • Master's degree in education or related field. Degree must be conferred from an accredited college or institution.
  • Valid Maryland State Department of Education Advanced Professional Certificate with Admin I endorsement; applicants applying from outside of Maryland should possess equivalent teaching and professional certifications.
  • A minimum of two years supervisory/administrative/leadership experience in an education environment with demonstrated success, including personnel and financial management experience.
  • A minimum of three years of school-based experience in an educational environment with demonstrated effectiveness and roles of increasing responsibility.

  • Ability to develop and maintain appropriate working relationships with a wide range of school staff, community agencies, and federal, state, and local officials.
  • Experience developing and delivering professional learning to a wide range of adult audiences, inclusive of school-based staff.
  • Effective interpersonal, coaching, and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise and evaluate staff in an educational setting.
  • Ability to manage multiple long and short-term projects and tasks.
  • Knowledge of national trends, research, and best practices on curriculum, instruction, and assessment, principles of adult learning and high-quality coaching
  • Effective and experienced facilitator of professional learning
  • Ability to analyze and interpret data and prepare reports.
  • Ability to interface with administrators.
  • Proficient in the use of computer applications, including Microsoft Office, Excel, and PowerPoint.
