Baldwin Area Medical Center is Hiring an Optician (part-time) Near Baldwin, WI

Western Wisconsin Health is looking for a part-time Optician (0.4 FTE) to join the Eye Clinic. The Optician is responsible for advising and consulting with patients in the selection of frames, lenses and accessories. This is done to support the organization’s mission while living our values.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Creates an inviting and welcoming environment for patients;
  • Provides eyeglass fittings, adjusting, troubleshooting and selection services to patients;
  • Answers questions regarding retail optical equipment, lens products, and current frame trends;
  • Assists patients in navigating insurances and benefits for vision including medical coverage and supplements;
  • Conducts sales transactions in a timely manner with outstanding customer service;
  • Stocks, cleans, and straightens displays and maintains clean and safe environment;
  • Answers and returns calls from patients and takes accurate and detailed messages;
  • Bills Insurance companies for eyeglass materials;
  • Collects payments for clinical appointment and optical sales;
  • Maintains the inventory of frames and ensures the accuracy of the invoices from vendors;
  • Manages billing and insurance related tasks for eyewear services, including verifying insurance coverage, processing insurance claims, and accurately coding and submitting claims to insurance companies;
  • Maintains detailed and organized records of patients billing and insurance information, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and privacy laws;
  • Handles billing inquiries and resolves any issues related to insurance claims or billing discrepancies;
  • Collaborates with optometrists and other staff members to ensure seamless coordination of patient care and billing processes;
  • Ensures the quality of eyewear received and dispensed to the patient;
  • Demonstrates awareness, understanding and respect of cultural diversity and patients of all ages and socioeconomic groups; and,
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Certified Optician or prior optical experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience working in Optical
  • Prior experience with billing and electronic health records systems

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Exhibit excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Clearly and effectively convey information to patients
  • Ability to manage conflicting priorities and handle multiple tasks/projects concurrently
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) and electronic medical records
  • Maintain the integrity of highly confidential business and patient information
  • Display and promote high standards of ethical conduct and behaviors consistent with organizational standards

Work schedule:

  • .4 FTE – 32 hours in a bi-weekly pay period
